Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch is selling better than PS4, PS2, PS1, PS3, X360 launch aligned

Great achievement for Switch. Although Q1 and Q2 of 2019 may bring it back to be closer to PS4 aligned...

Let's see how much discussion on the alignments merits goes on... (just to remember even though PS4 Japan and tier 2 countries weren't big, they still didn't launch all together).

3DS after 8 quarters: 24.77m
Wii U after 8 quarters: 7.29m
Combined: 32.06m

Switch after 8 quarters: 32.27m

Oh damn! Too early to say but it does have chance to outsell both LT!

Considering WiiU sold only 15M, it is quite expected Switch can pass they combined, PS4 already have if I'm not wrong.

Launching in march sure helps. Im surprised the wii was way ahead of the ps1 and ps2 but couldnt outsell any of them lifetime. Did the wii hit a brick wall?

I'm pretty sure the Wii trained off quite dramatically lol. Switch will pass it eventually but the question is, can switch have a slower decline than sakes in than the Wii.

A drought of no software lol. At one stage it was tracking at like 140million then it crashed hard.

What did the Wii got after Super Mario Galaxy and Xenoblade Chronicles and before Skyward Sword ?

"after Xenoblade Chronicles and before Skyward Sword" XC? In NA XC is 2012, Skyward Sword is 2011. We have The Last Story (TLS) and Pandora's Tower (PT) in JP 2011 but NA ver of TLS is 2012 and PT is 2013.

Despiste being a hybrid console, its great achivement for Nintendo. Proving that what matters the most its the games and not the resolutions and FPS. Congrats and long live for the switch, but i love my PS4 pro. Cheers

Not sure what to think of it when it's above the console that sold 160m but below the console that sold 100m. So I guess that means it will sell anywhere between 80m and 200m.

good sales, but unless it gets well ahead of the PS4 holiday spike there, it will just fall under the PS4, and keep swinging back up and down.

Yeah, the PS4 will definitely be on top again. And my guess is within a couple of years it will remain so.

Still, great performance from the Switch. Much better than a lot of us predicted.

Switch is a monster, honestly.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Is PS4 still ahead of PS2? That's weird.

At that time staggered launches were more common. PS2 released in March in Japan, in October in the US, in November in europe. But more importantly, Sony was expanding it's distribution in more countries worldwide that gen (which is to this day the reason for Playstations strength in the rest of the world), which means it got into more countries even later in the lifecycle. Add to that, that it was unchallanged leader that gen and got lots of third-party support and that the PS3 struggled out of the gate which gave PS2 a second wind. All together explains why PS2 started slower but sold constantly over a very, very long timeframe.
