Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Pokemon gen 8 should ditch wild battles and random encounters.

I've been playing a lot of Let's Go Pikachu and I really like the new mechanics. I even tried to play some sun this morning and after a few minutes I put it down because let's go encounters are better. The game is less of a grind and it's enjoyable this way. Also i'm actually trying to fill up my pokedex for the first time in a long time. I've seen people on twitter saying the same thing so i'm curious what yall think about this suggestion.

I strongly disagree myself. It's an actual battle between the wild pokemon and you, rather a waggle rng minigame.

Though I think there should be a mixture of random encounters and pokemon you can encounter in the overworld.

edit: Also, it's an rpg, some grind is okay, imo.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

You casuals can play Pokemon Go and Let's Go (lowest reviewed Pokemon RPG game). Leave the real Pokemon RPGs alone.

Wild battles wont go anywhere, but they need to keep being able to see pokemon on the map. Keep that mechanic going, bring back wild pokemon battles, keep motion controls in as OPTIONAL and then keep the core game play of the mainline series, so both fans of Go and mainline can play how they want

Careful with stuff like this. Don't need to baiting people.

I disagree on ditching wild Pokemon battles, agree on dropping random encounters. I want a Breath of the Wild like open world. Full 3D character and camera control, visible wild Pokemon in the world, any Pokemon can follow you around, battles taking place in the open world (though still turn based), a bigger scale than any previous Pokemon game. Sadly, this is Gamefreak we are talking about, they totally lack ambition, we will probably get a re-use of the Let's Go engine for Gen 8 except with wild battles and random encounters

If they keep battles they should show the Pokemon in the world so you don't have random encounters. Also for battles they should keep the option to give the Pokemon berries and other treats so you can avoid having a battle if you want. That's sounds like a nice middle ground.

I barely played Pokemon Go and have completed most of the mainline Pokemon games.

I feel like a full 3d Pokemon game would not work. They can rework the engine but I want them to stick to the camera angle aways being above your trainer and being able to see part of the area you're in.

I wouldn't want it to drop existing features, but I do like the catching mechanic a lot more than I was expecting. Either mixing the two or giving us the option to catch with the motion controls would be really nice, make everyone happy. I mean it's not like it's particularly challenging in the mainline games either...I caught all the legendaries in Heartgold and recall it being more of a waiting game for the RNG to pay off after going through the usual False Swipe+Sleep+Dusk Ball routine.

I do agree about random battles though. Holy crap being able to see the Pokemon I want before engaging is an absolute blessing and saves so much grinding in the long run. Really don't want to go back to the old method of crossing my fingers every time the battle music starts.

Keep wild battles, just make Pokemons visible in the over world.
