Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS4 attach ratio already 9.9!

Someone over on resetera calculated that the ps4 attach ratio is about to hit 10! That's crazy considering we still have so many more years of sales this gen. What a vibrant and healthy system Sony have built.

Edit : ps4 sells 853m SW by end of September. We're only a few months away from hitting 1BN folks. Insanity.

So with digital included PS4 can be the best selling console for software of all time. It may pass the PS2's 1.6 Billion.

Yeah it actually has a chance of that.

it's significant that the attach rate already is this high while the PS4 itself is still selling gangbusters (though it passed it's peak) - usually attach rate shoots up after hw sales have slowed down a lot

Who cares? Brashnir has 2. PS4 is the biggest waste of money of his life.

VGC figures don't show the PS4's software sales constantly increasing, it has 2016 selling more than 2017 for example. But using official figures we can see software is continually selling more and more each week, as you'd expect as installbase continues to grow and the number of games released continues to increase.

Date Week Total Software Sell-through Lifetime Average Sold Per Week
December 28, 2013 6 9.7m 1.61m
March 2, 2014 15 13.7m 0.91m
April 13, 2014 21 20.5m 0.97m
August 10, 2014 38 30m 0.79m
November 22, 2014 53 64m 1.2m
January 4, 2015 59 81.8m 1.38m
May 22, 2016 131 270.9m 2.06m
December 4, 2016 159 369.6m 2.32m
January 1, 2017 163 401.1m 2.46m
June 11, 2017 186 487.8m 2.62m
December 3, 2017 211 617.8m 2.92m
December 31, 2017 215 645m 3m
June 30, 2018 241 777.9m 3.22m
September 30, 2018 254 853m 3.35m

These are all the official software figures Sony has released, throughout it's entire life as of September 30th 2018, it's sold an average of 3.35m software per week, the highest it's ever been. Unfortunately can't get yearly numbers because software hasn't been as consistently reported as hardware.

Apparently it's 853m now after September 31st.

Thanks, updated the table. So that puts the PS4 at selling an average of 3.35m each week throughout it's lifetime. Still going up!

Really interesting post from resetera on how the ps4 if it meets the current fiscal year targets, it's profit for the gen will be equal to the money they've made (lost) when you add the ps2 profits to the ps3 loses. So the ps2 + ps4 profits will have cancelled out the ps3 losses. But ps4 still has at least another fiscal year but possibly 1.5 years to go after the current one ends in March. And it will be very profitable for a few years after the ps5. So when all is said and done I expect ps4 to cancel out ps3 on it's own and then some. But unlike the ps3, the ps4 will leave them in a much healthier position to transition to an even more profitable ps5.

"The new operating income forecast for the year in the game business is pretty insane. I mean, relative to where it started. They were forecasting 190bn yen at the end of the last fiscal year, bumped it to 250bn yen at the end of the first quarter, now bumped to 310bn yen. For some perspective - if they meet that target, the cumulative operating income during these six years of the PS4's life (741.1bn yen) will exceed the cumulative loss of the seven years of the PS3 (443bn yen, ish?) and the cumulative profit of the five years of PS2 (264bn yen), combined. With another FY of PS4 to go"

PS4 profits alone have already cancelled out PS3 losses. It's a weird comparison he makes. He's saying that by end of FY PS4 Profit > (PS2 Profit + PS3 Losses) a.k.a: 741.1 > (264 + 443)

Very strange observation to make, xD.
