Forums - Sony Discussion - PS5 Launch Lineup / Current Studio Projects

The Microsoft thread was pretty cool - so setting up a similar one for Sony.

Below are what I know / think the first party studios are working on - and about what window I think they'll release.

I expect the PS5 to release in Spring / Fall of 2020 - so the launch lineup may include:

  • Death Stranding
  • Horizon: Zero Dawn Sequel
  • Last of Us:  Part II
  • FFVII Remake
  • Ghost of Tsushima
Some, if not all of these titles will probably be cross-gen with the PS4 - and hopefully PS5 is backwards compatible with all PS4 games.

Should also note some 2nd/3rd party studios are working on some Sony exclusives, including:

Insomniac  Spider-man 2 Spring 2021

Kojima Productions Death Stranding   Spring 2020

Quantic Dream ??? (New Cage Project) Fall 2021

Wild Sheep Studios Wild Fall 2019

From Software Bloodborne 2 Spring 2021

Square Enix FFVII Remake Fall 2020

Studio Next Project Release Window

Bend Days Gone SPRING 2019

Japan Studio ??? (Bloodborne 2? Ueda's Next Game?) 2019

London Blood & Truth SPRING 2019

Manchester  PSVR Games 2019

San Diego MLB: Show SPRING 2019

Santa Monica God of War 2 FALL 2021

Guerrilla Horizon Zero Dawn 2 FALL 2020

Media Molecule Dreams SPRING 2019

Naughty Dog Last of Us: Part II SPRING 2020

Polyphony Digital Gran Turismo 7 FALL 2020

Pixelopus Concrete Genie SPRING 2019

Sucker Punch Ghost of Tsushima FALL 2020

I'm questioning what they would allow to release all at once. Would they let 3 heavy hitters release all at once, even at launch? I feel like they might let two launch with it, but that would be the max.

Owner of PS4 Pro, Xbox One, Switch, PS Vita, and 3DS

Yeah the way things are falling are going to hit the ground running which they didn't with the ps3 or ps4 although ps4 sales were still good
If they have death stranding, ff7R, spiderman 2, gow2, tlou2, gta6, ghost of tsutshima, horizon 2, ratchet and clank and gran tourism 7 all in the first 2 years they would seriously want to be producing 30m consoles per year because along with all the other 3rd party titles and first party it will sell that especially if they launch at 399$.

I actually wouldn't be shocked if Horizon 2 is a launch-game

Nothing to see here, move along

If DS, TloU2, FF7 and GoT are cross gen games there is no way Horizon 2 even launches within launch window (first 6 months),

Sony is going to spread those games, especially at launch when it would be unnecessary to have so many games at the same time.

Especially if all are cross gen, you probably wont even see another Sony game till after 6 months, which I somehow doubt. Taking into account 1st party, I think one of those 3 games is releasing next year and thus can be eliminated. hard to tell which of those is furthest along though. My guess is either Tsushima or Stranding make next year. And a SCEJA game makes launch.

horizon 2 could really be a ps5 launch game, but i think SE will release FFVIIR still for ps4, as they will release this game for the biggest userbase of hardware

I don't know, I have a feeling that the Last of Us: Part II will be the last big PS4 release (like the original was for the PS3) and it may get a a remaster on the PS5. However that all depends on when the PS5 comes out. I have a feeling that we will get the PS5 in holiday 2020 and The Last of Us: Part II in the same time of year as the first game in 2020.

I have a feeling Naughty Dog are taking longer than anticipated, as they are planning a new IP to release on the PS5.

We also got confirmation that supermassive games is working on multiple PS exclusives, maybe a VR game and maybe a big game like until dawn. So we might see those release next to launch or at launch. Maybe even cross gen

Really hope one of them is an Until Dawn sequel.  I think it's one of PS4's hidden gems and surprised a lot of people when it came out.  Sony really underestimated this game and it could have done so much better had they marketed it more.
