You know guys there are films that came out that aren't super hero films.

I know that. Mission: Impossible-Fallout was one of my favorite films of the year thankyouverymuch. Halloween was really good as well. Infinity War just happens to be one of, if not the most lauded film of the year.

So superhero flicks, Mission Impossible 6(!), and a seasonal horror movie. You guys are missing out. Damn

I got so caught up in gaming that i only saw like 3 movies last year, all MCU.Infinity War was awesome at least

These are some of the most memorable films I watched in 2018.

Blindspotting
A Quiet Place
BlacKkKlansman

So you overall have bad taste in movies... The only way Infinity War could ever win best movie of the year is if it is the only movie that comes out in a single year. Oh my, how fast a medium can slip from art and dig itself into an industry that only carters to the lowest common denominator.

Soon we will reach the point where punching someone in the face will be the backbone of reality shows that run for several seasons, as in "Sorry to bother you" a movie that is, you know, actually good. I am sorry for this short rant but when I see most peoples top 10 I just get depressed...

Yeah, the "my favorite 2018 movies"-lists in this thread confused me as well.

I guess that's why some people want Sony to stop making movies. These people only watch the cookie-cutter blockbusters loaded with fan service, CGI galore and cool jokes and Sony suck at making those.

I think the fact that movies have carved their niche in popular culture as an occasional leisurely activity is the exact reason why you see so many lists which only feature popular blockbuster releases on them: Not only will these movies have the most marketing and thus the highest chance to be one of the few films a casual movie goer sees a year, but these films are also way more digestible on first viewing and don't require multiple viewings to really get the full picture. They don't have a lot of divisive elements about them in particular. It makes for a very good treat but it isn't god for those who look for a more artistic industry.

Venom was a flawed but fun movie for me. The first 3rd is really boring, but once Venom shows up it felt like non-stop action, and it was shot well unlike some superhero movies. Tom Hardy was great, villain sucked but at least the last fight was good. Hate that it was PG13 and not R (makes me worried for the next one). Venom to me was a movie that had many flaws but still managed to be fun. It didn't aim high by any stretch of the word, yet somehow managed to be better than a lot of movies that do. I can understand both sides to the Venom yay/nay argument.

Since this thread is turning into a top movies of 2018 list:
1. Avengers Infinity War.
2. Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse.
3. Bohemian Rhapsody.
4. Ready Player One.
5. Mission Impossible Fallout.
6. Hereditary.
7. A Quiet Place.
8. Crazy Rich Asians.
9. Pacific Rim Uprising.
10. Mile 22, Aquaman or Venom.

Yeah. That's a good point.

I really enjoyed watching Venom. The only negative I can come up with is that the run time of 2h 20m felt too short.

CPU: Ryzen 7950X
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5

One thing I realized while watching the movie was how unutilized Spiderman's spider-sense has been thus far. Seriously Venom used the ability (which shouldn't even be as good as Spidey's) more in one movie than Tom Holland's Spiderman did on 3.

My top 8 so far this year goes like this:

1. Avengers: Infinity War

2. A quite Place

3. Hereditary

4. Black Panther

5. The Incredibles 2

6. Deadpool 2

7. Ant-Man and the Wasp

8. Venom

Ok,  Since then I have watched Love Simon, Aquaman and Birdbox so I think I have to rearrange my list. Sadly, that means that Venom didn't make it into my top 10.

Also, after doing some rethinking I had to move Black Panther down a few spots because I remembered that Hereditary and A Quiet Place gave me a wider range of emotions while watching them so..

10-Love, Simon
9-Bird Box
8-Incredibles 2
7-Deadpool 2
6-Aquaman
5-Black Panther
4-Hereditary
3-A Quiet Place
2-Into the SpiderVerse
1-Infinity War
