Forums - Sales Discussion - Is Nintendo Switch really a success?

I think it's a success. System sales are over 20 million already, and the software is doing great numbers.

How, after 11 years, do these threads still trick the uninitiated? You practice some dark sorcery, Rol :D

I'll say this: it's not the success it is said to be.
There are several things that make Switch only a temporary success.

First, i woudn't lump both 3DS and Wii U sales together: there was some overlaping in sales and they were two distinctive consoles: Switch doesn't necessarily take all the strengths from the handheld and home console sides of it, to appeal to both sides.

Switch has yet to get a BIG 3rd party game outside Fifa, that isn't a port and not an online game (not to take merit away from them).

Mobile business is here to stay even if Switch was clearly outselling PS4.
Honestly, the only way i see Nintendo giving out on the market would be if they failed after several attempts (not happening).

The only structural change that i have seen is Nintendo bringing online games like Fortnite, Arena of Valor, Warframe and Paladins, to the console. Even then, they have so far failed to make a game of that genre to really attract those type of gamers.

In terms of 1st party titles, i'm not sure if they have passed the Wii U by now.

It already have 2, Mario+Rabbids and Octopath Traveler. And will get Doom Eternal next year.

Switch sales will fall off a cliff next year because Nintendo will have put all their biggest guns on the system by the end of 2018.

People were saying this a year ago about 2017, and the Switch is still selling.

Full disclosure. Rol is not being serious.

His default post is satire. I can't tell whenever he IS being serious.

A particularly silly statement given Animal Crossing and the next generational Pokemon are due out next year.

Oh and Rol, I know you and some others on this site think you are this generation's Jonathan Swift but please take note that the beauty of A Modest Proposal was that those being satirized couldn't miss that they were being satirized.  Satire isn't just typing stuff the opposing side does while rolling your eyes.  And threads of this nature are getting quite tiresome.

Not really.

They're about 60 Million behind the PS4.

Sorry Pao, but massive facepalm.
