Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Direct delayed due to earthquake

A 6.7 magnitude earthquake has hit the island of Hokkaido. From the reports that I have seen, 7 are reported dead, 150 injured, and at least 40 are missing. In the wake of this disaster, Nintendo has decided to delay their Nintendo Direct scheduled for today (August 6, 20180. As of now, Nintendo has not aired a new date for the direct, but I would not expect it anywhere within the next week at least.

While I am disappointed that I will not be able to gather around the TV with my friends today and watch the direct, more than anything else I sincerely hope all those affected are able to recover from this tragedy.

You should probably link at least one article. Otherwise, the earthquake is terrible news,

Cue internet people going "but I wanted my Direct!"

I am a little disappointed too, was gonna watch it at some cool eSports place with some friends, it'd have probably been quite hype, but.., people died. I never thought an earthquake in Japan would have this much impact, but it did. So, best wishes to everyone affected by this down there at the other side of the world.

Really? Japan has some of the worst earthquakes/Tsunami's on the planet. Japan's Earthquakes average over a 7 magnitude. They had a 9 magnitude quake in 2012 that killed 16,000 people. Impact is huge.

I didn't remember the 2012 being that awful, but, yeah. I know it's a dangerous place for earthquakes, I said I didn't expect one to have this much impact exactly because Japan is very well prepared for them.

I think, relatively speaking, that this earthquake is not a huge deal.  Most life in Japan, and elsewhere, is peoceeding as normal.  But, it is just big enough that Nintendo's PR department thinks it may be seen as disrespectful to announce non-urgent video game news today.  There's really no reason for them to risk a PR blunder, so they're going to delay until a more appropriate time.

Or, it could be that someone that is integral to the Direct had family impacted, so is not able to participate right now.

Or, to take a more cynical view, it could be that Nintendo doesn't want to be overshadowed by this bigger news story.

"Quagmire, are you the type of guy who takes 'no' for an answer ?"
"My lawyer doesn't allow me to answer that question"

My heart goes out to the Japanese people. Smart decision on behalf of Nintendo, both humanely and corporatively. World's eyes are turned to this catastrophe, that Direct would go right under the radar if it were to be released today.

Nope just overlooked as it was posted in the wrong section. Without a functional search system I don't blame the OP.

The direct was pre recorded so they could have still aired it.
