Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft teases all-new hardware for gamescom

https://t.co/GF8uJUC1an?amp=1

Microsoft is planning to attend Gamescom in Germany next month, and the company has new hardware to announce. The software maker is planning to hold a live stream for new features, news, and most importantly “all-new Xbox hardware and accessories” on August 21st. Microsoft doesn’t offer up any further hints in its blog post on exactly what new hardware will be announced, but it’s unlikely to be a next-generation Xbox console. Microsoft’s next Xbox console is reportedly arriving in 2020.

Probably just means their Holiday bundles, which will include some new limited edition consoles and controllers. Too soon to redesign either Xbox One S or Xbox One X.

XBOX VR / AR headset

Hope we hear more from even more aquisitions :)

It's not the nextbox, that'd be so silly to unveil this year. Especially from a business standpoint. New hardware could be addons, maybe Xbox VR?

Yeah, we know that Sony is also expanding for next gen (they seem to be creating a new studio in Santa Monica and a 2nd team at Sony Bend so far), so even after the 5 E3 acquisitions MS first party is still going to be smaller than Sony's unless they acquire or create more studios. So hopefully they have another studio announcement for Gamescom.

MS marketed the Xbox One X as being for VR, but they gave up on the idea, not to long ago.
And basically said its not going to happend this gen.

It's probably the Xbox Elite Controller V2.

Skipping VR this gen and saving it for next gen makes sense logically. MS already said that the standard Xbox One and Xbox One S are too weak to do VR properly, so any headset would only work with Xbox One X, and there simply isn't a big enough install base of XB1 X owners to justify R&D costs and VR exclusive development budgets for a headset that is limited to just XB1 X owners. Better to save it for next gen when the headset will be open to the much larger Xbox Scarlett install base.

Maybe it's another showcase of their controller setting for disabled gamers?

You know it deserves the GOTY.
