Forums - Nintendo Discussion - He said WHAT?!!

Please Sakurai-San, say it ain't so!! There's still so many characters that haven't even been in Smash yet, we can't let this be the last one. :(

Basically, according to NintendoLife, Masahiro Sakurai notes that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate could be the last one in the series, taking into account the effects Smash has had on his health and personal life.

I know Sakurai has those things to look out for, but I don't want this to be the last Smash Bros.

His last maybe. Nintendo is not just gonna stop making them.lol

Even still, who would be talented enough to take his place? We don't know of anyone at Nintendo who has Sakurai's finess.

Well they found people for Mario and Zelda, so Im sure they'll be ok.

Yeah that's what Kojima said after Metal Gear Solid 1 as well. And 2. And 3, etc.
Although to be fair, he was probably forced into working on some of them. Certainly 5.

Sakurai has previously said that working on Smash is very taxing for him, and I thought I had heard comments similar to this before, but maybe he didn't specifically imply that he really would stop making them.

Anyway, he can at least keep working on Ultimate with updates at a slower pace, adding new characters as they go along.
After Ultimate is done and Switch 2 comes out or whatever, if he really doesn't want to work on Smash, someone else will do it.

Didn't he already said that on Smash 4?

He did. But with ultimate and bringing back the old fighters, it looks like a good time to pass the toarch.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Maybe HIS last one. But there's no way Nintendo is just going to let these games stop. They likely have had discussions with Sakurai about a potential successor who can take over his role as Director and Game Designer to ensure the series continues without missing a beat. When he left HAL Laboratory, they didn't suddenly stop making Kirby games. The puffball kept going on without missing a step.

He said the same god damn thing about Smash Bros. 4. He'll be fine.

He says that for the last 2 or 3 Smash.Plus, even if he dosent direct it, he will be involved in some way with the next one, and the franchise will keep on going.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
