Forums - Nintendo Discussion - My very mixed reactions to the Pokemon announcements

Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee

-I wasnt too happy when I heard about the rumors for these games, and I wasnt sure how I felt with the reveal trailer. THIS is pokemon. taking a step back from Sun and Moon, the games have reverted to a chibi style, which is nice, but I preferred the more realistic body proportions we were getting. also the grid has returned. Pokemon follow you again, thats awesome! you can also, play with a single joycon... wait you might have to play with just one joycon... wait theres a pokeball joycon... okay well, this is interesting. and its coming out this year. i mean it by no means looks bad, there are just a lot of design choices im not sure i agree with quite yet.

Pokemon Quest

this looks interesting... i can get behind a cube design if its absolutely necessary. and the gameplay looks relatively similar to Rumble. Is this an evolution of Rumble? if so, i will gladly try this. *coming soon to mobile* well, thats disappointing... *out now for Switch* I AM GETTING THIS RIGHT NOW

Core series game coming 2019

wait what... so Let's Go isnt the next step? well f*** me then. that basically puts it as the best Pokemon console spinoff weve ever seen. what am i even complaining about anymore? Core series pokemon on the Switch, an amazing new spinoff, and an evolution of the Rumble series ALL AT ONCE. im sold, 10/10

im sure im not alone here. how is everyone else feeling about these announcements?

I thought the announcements were about as awesome for Pokémon fans as they could have hoped for. That's a lot of new stuff coming, and it always seemed to me that a 2018 release for that main one they started a little over a year ago would be a potentially rushed job... expectations for it will be enormous, so they should take their time.

These spinoffs sound about as good as the franchise has received. The only thing that would have excited me more was a new Pokémon Snap, but I imagine I'm in the minority lol

Im hyped, the Switch just keeps getting better! Kanto remakes in 3D/HD 2018 and full proper Gen 8 games 2019 is the best possible outcome that could of happened imo.

Only care about "core series". Will not be paying attention until it is on Switch.

Eh, I'd hardly call them Kanto remakes.

Anyways, personally I'm not too excited for anything at this point. I'm completely burnt out with this franchise, it isn't just gonna take a great game to put me back on board, it's also going to take a massive change in direction, and based on the stuff I've seen today there was none of that.

Can't say I'm a fan of Quest, at least not the LOOK of it anyway, too squared/cubey, as if they're trying to appeal to Minecraft fans on style alone, lol. However, I do think the Let's Go games look interesting and something I'll be looking at in the future... overall pretty decent, two spin off games to tide people over until the mainline game launches next year, that's not too shabby if you ask me :P

Why not? An almost 1 to 1 3D HD render of the Kanto region, Professor Oak, 8 gyms, Team Rocket etc.

I would say this is the biggest change of direction the series has ever seen, but these are spin-offs so none of it (or at least most of it is not) going to transfer over to the main series game in 2019. Which is a good thing though in my eyes, because these games are clearly their own single separate experience with unconventional mechanics that just wouldn't work in a main game.

It's not a full remake in the traditional sense. No wild Pokemon battles. I'm curious how you'll level up your Pokemon once you beat all the trainers. Oh no. Not the candy. Noooo

What Medisti said. No wild battles, no remake.

I also wouldn't consider anything a change in direction if it's a spin-off. The only stuff you can take as reference for direction when it comes to spin-offs, is how they're handled in terms of advertising, and I'm sick of these 'people in real life situations happily playing Pokémon games with happy music' trailers. Of course, I'm also sick of Shigeru Ohmori's mainline games, but that's something that'll only come into play next year.

Actually, the wild battles are probably  the most tedious and unfun aspect of any Pokémon games I played. Especially when it comes to grinding against some of these weak beasts that give you almost no XP which means you're left into a boring  repetitous task.

They streamlined the concept for this spin-off and I can be glad that I won't waste much time on this anymore (except for catching them).
