Forums - Gaming Discussion - does microsoft afford to release the Xbox after the PS5?

well considering the one X is newer than the pro. it would make sense that microsoft have been working on next gen for shorter than Sony. now that isn't bullet proof logic but you'd think.

anyway. we do know Sony is  deep into working on the PS5. multiple devs mentioning working on next gen games in Sony 1st party studios.  do you think we will see both consoles next to each other like last gen?

I don't think microsoft can afford to let Sony release significantly earlier.

It's not an easy thing to say. Microsoft is a bigger company than sony and makes sales from PC and consoles. Xbox available on PC, so I think the xbox one x is fine. If you really need better visuals you'd play on PC. We're getting to a point where most people aren't going to care to see a difference between these consoles. There was already a big hit on diminishing returns. Microsoft can hold out until it's justified to release their console.

They're not really 100% at competition with Sony anyway

Yet their PC games sales are not bigger then their consoles games sales, in fact one of the reason they are still maintaining consoles as media is obvious that Xbox is a good choice  " at the moment " in selling their games.

They are still 100% competing with SONY in "consoles " market area and 100 % competing with SONY in "games sales"

But I agree Microsoft can hold out until it's justified to release their consoles and that time is "next year " or before PS5 coming releasing in 2020 actually and logically, because they need to gain momentum and gain market from SONY early.

No, it will need to launch before in order to steal some customers.

No. A year head start would be a crazy advantage for PS5.

2020... both launch same time imo.

When MS said that traditional generational shifts were done i believe them. That's why i think there will be a new XBOX One branded console either before or the same time PS5 releases cause they know they can't afford being left behind. I actually don't think this is a good idea cause it will just create confusion

I think ms will try to launch the new xbox before the PS5 is released to establish itself as the console to play on.

If MS felt they could only launch 'XB2' a year after PS5 at the earliest, then I would suggest they hold off a few years and try to shame the PS5 Pro, assuming next gen plays out similar to this one.
If MS could launch 'XB2' a year before PS5 Pro, and have extremely similar specs, and the same price that PS5 Pro has when it launches, that could make PS look like they were "lazy" and weren't trying to offer the best tech available.
Better yet, if 'XB2' was a year before or alongside PS5 Pro, and it was actually more powerful, for the same price, that would look really bad on PS mid gen, and could potentially cause a shift in brand sales.

This would also give MS more time to focus on new studios and IP for the XB brand going forward and would allow them to launch with confidence across the board.

If PS5 launches sometime in 2020, MS would be ok to launch 'XB2' by late 2020 as well, as long as they have their first party in order by then.

It will launch head to head. Those of you who think that Sony will destroy them again need to look at your history. Look at the generation's starting from NES until now. How many times has the same company dominated twice? Just once. That's it. In all of gaming history, only one time has the same company dominated two times in a row in home consoles.

Things change. What happened in the eight generation is not automatically going to carry over. It COULD but the odds are against it. I fully expect Microsoft to take Sony on next generation with this in mind and not back down.
