Forums - Gaming Discussion - CGI's OFFICIAL Crysis Thread

Howdy! For a long time, I've wanted to do this. Any gaming site should have its own, dedicated, Crysis Thread. I'd prefer to keep it about the original, focusing on its impact on the industry, its cutting-edge technology, mods, and so fourth. Contribute in any way (though we're also trying to keep it positive, given it is an Official Topic). I'll post screens and footage (I'm back to modding the game), so if you have anything you'd like to share, I'd love to see it. Hard to believe this game is 11-years-old considering what many of us can still do with it!

Unlike past Official Threads, this one will have a constantly updated OP, so while it'll feel bare-bones at first, it will grow and evolve.

One screenshot to tide you over!

Eurogamer revisited the game last year:

"All hail Crysis, the "Maximum Game". How odd it feels to revisit this legendary mass-melter of motherboards, this bane of frame rates and comparison threads, on what passes for a budget gaming laptop 10 years down the line. The intro especially rouses much the same sense of everlasting absurdity and pathos you might get from Hadrian's Wall or a Microsoft Zune, an orgiastic showreel in which bullets flatten themselves against quivering artificial muscles, and North Korean troopers gape at all the high-octane graphics ability coruscating around them as they're hurled headlong into their friends. Once upon a time, you think to yourself, we called this the future. Alas, futures seldom age that gracefully."

Would it be unfounded to say that some screenshots of this game look better than 2?

Nope. Cry2 took steps back and even the most talented modders couldn't get it to look better than what we could in the original.

I heard conflicting things about that so thanks for clearing it up. What about 3? I remember that being pretty good looking.

Regardless I really need to get around to owning this one some time.

I've never actually played the first game, although I've played the second which didn't really do anything to wow me, in fact I actually got incredibly bored with it and gave up before finishing it, both on PC and PS3 (Yeah I have it twice, lol), and that in turn put me off even thinking about trying the third game... but the first game has always interested me simply because people STILL talk about how good it was/is, and it still looks absolutely amazing graphically, whether it be vanilla or with mods... it's sort of how I still think Far Cry 2 holds up really well due to the physics, interactions and AI, despite malaria being one of the worst things ever in a game, lol.

Crysis 3 was a powerhouse, but never quite caught like the original either.

Crisis 1 was amazing. The open ended level design killed the newer games

You're not missing out on anything, the beauty of this game is only skin deep. The only thing thats remembered about this game is it's graphics. As you've probably already gathered judging by this thread.

I've never played Crysis, and I normally don't like FPS games either. I don't think it looks like my kind of game, actually. But I'm here because well, CGI made the thread, and CGI is cool. I mean, besides being a cool guy, his namesake is very much the only reason I'm a thing. Or a dude, I guess.

But hey, if I may not be completely useless here:

That's a contribution, right?
