Sorry for bumping this old topic but I would feel like such a crappy metroid fan if I didn't say this. That comic is canon. Yes. It is. Nintendo considers it canon. It is a japanese E-manga (a flash comic) that can be found here.

Anyway for those worried about the legality of altering it. I wouldn't be too concerned. If I remember right a Nintendo employee referenced it during a interview. So it would seem Nintendo knows about it and quite frankly doesn't care...

Most of the time they just don't care when it comes to English translations...Death Note probably got an English dub because the fansubs were so popular in the US.

That's depressing.  I liked Samus because she was a female protagonist that didn't need saving all the time and wasn't angsty...

hrmm... I was interested in reading it by the thread title... But if WoW says she is angsty...I believe it. Angsty characters have a tendency to get on my nerves a bit... I might try this out, but won't expect too much.

If it's any consolation the comic ends when she is like seventeen. The metroid series doesn't start until she is at least twenty. People can change quite a bit in three years so your personal interpretation of her character shouldn't be to threatened.
