Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Best Nintendo Sequel?

Nintendo is known for doing many things better than most other developers out there, one of them being sequels.

Out of all of them though, my absolute favorite was a difficult choice to make, what with the likes of Donkey Kong Country 2, Splatoon 2, Star Fox 64, Super Smash Bros. Melee, etc.

For this thread I will count any Nintendo sequels at all, regardless of being the second, third, fourth, etc.

So what are your favorite Nintendo sequels? :)

You literally just asked "best Nintendo game".

Well, the best one is Super Metroid. It's also a *proper* sequel, unlike most Nintendo games.

My favorite would be Skyward Sword, though. Which isn't a proper sequel, but it sort of is, but at the same time it sort of isn't. You say everything counts, so, well, there it is.

OOT. There is no equal.

It's a prequel, actually :P

Mine would probably be Star Fox 64 (The 3DS remake though). Then it would probably be Super Mario Bros 2 (Super Mario Advance).

Never played too many sequel of Nintendo franchises ...

Yes it is, but as a new entry in the Zelda franchise it's also a sequel. I mean, otherwise you couldn't list Star Fox 64 as a sequel, since it's lore-wise just a remake.

But are the Zelda games really sequels to each other, aside from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask? Not really sure of the timelines or anything lol, but isn't MM a direct follow-up or something? And while we're at it, what about Mario? Galaxy 2 is obviously a sequel (To Galaxy), but is Super Mario 64 a sequel, or just a new entry in the franchise? Maybe it's just me, but unless the stories carry on, I don't class them as "proper" sequels, lol.

However, if we're just counting any game that isn't the original (Which is like 90+% of Nintendo games it seems), then I'll go with Super Mario 64.

Fair points on both sides.

I also loved F-Zero X, GX, Pikmin 3, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and Mario Kart 64. :)

Never thought of that.

Super Mario 3D World took what was a mediocre 3D Mario (3D Land) imo and made it way better, not only visually but also with the multiple playable characters, so I'm gonna go with that. Super Mario Galaxy 2 was also great but it was just more of the same tbh, which isn't a bad thing at all, just didn't impact me as much as going from 3D Land to 3D World did.

Yeah, Super Mario 3D World blew it's predecessor out of the water level, everything was just improved upon so much! :D

What exactly qualifies as a sequel here? Is it as broad as any game in a series besides the first? Or does it have to be a direct followup to a previous game, like Phantom Hourglass?

Regardless, I'd say Super Metroid. Virtually universally regarded as one of the best games ever, and with good reason.
