Forums - General Discussion - Amazon Prime $120 price justified? Or corporate greed?

So by now Im sure everyone has heard that Prime is now $120, up from $100. Recently, Jeff Bezos touted that concurrent Prime subscriber base has passed 100 Million. Their reason for the price hike is because the $100 price point was no longer sustainable because of the influx of eligible 2-Day free shipping item catalog on Amazon.

But let's look at the numbers real quick. Let's multiply $100 across 100 million people paying for the service - which Amazon sees 100% of. The total revenue that Prime generates from it's 100 million subscribers is $10 Billion dollars a year...

So it begs the question: is Prime 'really' unsustainable at that annual revenue? Or is this another case of textbook corporate greed? I'm gonna go with greed.

Your thoughts?

they posted record profits.

I have student discount. so don't care. if its anything more than 80 i wouldn't pay for it. amazon tv is worthless. and a lot of retailers have free shipping anyway.

also a lot of shit on amazon is sold by non prime service

If you eat like a bird, is a buffet worth the price? What if you eat like a horse?

It's up to each individual to determine if something has value or not. I paid $100 for Prime and I feel confident that I made that back with shipping (for myself and others) plus peripheral features. I'll have to look at it again to determine if $120 is a worthwhile investment.

I haven't heard about it. Kinda lame. I've been part of Amazon prime since it only cost 10€. I do not use their services other than free shipping and occasionally Twitch prime. The price isn't high enough yet for me to reconsider.

I'd have to agree regarding TV shows you get with Prime. The only show worthwhile they have for Prime members is Hannibal. And Prime movies are mostly obscure indie movies you haven't heard of that went straight to DVD. Like Hallmark movies - only half the quality...

if they make Houseki No Kuni season 2 i dont give a fuck

Looks like greed to me. I did the trial just to get free shipping on a Japanese style futon, sheets, pillows and some other stuff a few months ago. It's not worth the price unless you buy alot of stuff off of amazon, read e-books and watch their streaming app for the free content.

$120 is just ridiculous. No way is that justified

Not all of their subscribers pay that though. For starters it's 50% for students, but also different countries pay different amounts. I'm an Amazon Japan Prime member still and that costs me roughly $35 a year. Fantastic deal for that price, even if I only use it for video streaming. Was even better when I was a student and had it for half that. Sucks that you Americans are getting ripped off though.

Bet Shiken that COD would outsell Battlefield in 2018. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8749702

Like i always tell people, your money is better in your pocket or supporting local business.

Am i missing something? Prime is 15$ in India, any extra incentives in the US?
