Forums - Movies Discussion - Black Panther Currently @ $700M+ DBO, $1.34B+ WW

Thanks to another great hold over the weekend, as well as launching in China, Disney has announced that BP passes $1B as of today. Congrats Marvel. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=4377&p=.htm

So, where do you think it will end up?

Well deserved!! It'll probalby peak at like $1.3B im guessing

Great success for Marvel, they've been at the top of their game for such a long time now. Still haven't seen it yet though, maybe tomorrow if I can

I think the film could have definitely been better. Or maybe it just needed a small trim.

Anyway, right now, BP is tracking 9.2% above Avengers at the domestic BO. If that continues, it'll end up at $680.7M. I don't know if its legs will be as good as Avengers, but I think $625M is pretty much on lock, which would make it #5 for all time DBO. If it can achieve the former, that would put it in the Top 3 for all time DBO.

As for FBO, it seems while the US is treating this like an event movie, the rest of the world is treating it more like any other big standalone Marvel film. Which is perfectly fine, but it does mean that BP has no chance to match Avengers $895.5M in the foreign market. If it doesn't do all that great in China, I could see it ending up at ~$550M-$575M. If it does good in China, it could be more like $600M-$625M.

So, WW, I see it anywhere from $1.18B on the low end to $1.31B. But, maybe FBO legs will surprise me.

I love Man of Steel and BvS, but this highlights that WB needs to get their shit together....

Also, so does Lucasfilm :P

So...Rian Johnson is getting fired?

Hmm....I don't know. It's far exceeded anything I expected. I think it, depending on China, has a shot to catch the TLJ.

I think it's almost guaranteed to pass TLJ at the DBO at this point. FBO is going to be a tall order, though, the DBO might be enough to make up for it. Either way, it's still probably going to end up only ~$100M  or so behind, which is pretty bad for TLJ considering it's part of largest film franchise ever and what it should have done (~$750M+ DBO and ~$1.7B+ WW).

Lol. Seriously, he should be.  I mean if BP, a standalone Marvel film, can get within striking distance to it WW, even passing it at the DBO, and Avengers:IW and JW2 end up passing it, obviously he failed to make a movie that pleased fans.  To give him free reign over the future of the franchise would be insanity in my opinion.

Long live the King!

Well deserved for Black Panther.
I think it will likely finish around $1.4-1.5 billion in the Box Office. Additionally, I think it will pass Avengers 1 in the Domestic Box Office and becoming the highest grossing Superhero movie of all-time in the United States.
