Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Let's figure out BotW Link's Smash moveset

I *may* be getting ahead of myself but assuming the inclusion of Link's Breath of the Wild appearance in the new Smash game means his moveset will be updated how would you incorporate his BotW abilities in Smash?

I'll start with a few:

Up-B: Revali's Gale
Hold Jump: Paraglider (that might make his recovery too good but then again Villager exists so that argument is void)
Down-B: Bombs like before but spawning above his head
Side-B: Daruk's Protection (counter)

I think it'd be interesting for them to implement Link's different weapon types in his move set. So maybe:

Jump + A+→ : Link's jump attack when jumping and attacking in BOTW. Preferably the Axe weapon type.

A+→+ HOLD: Sword Charge Attack

A+→+TAP: Light Sword Attack

Jump + A +↓: Heavy Blade Attack

Jump + A +: Heavy Upper Spear Attack

Down + A +HOLD : Urbosa's Fury

B: Ancient Arrow/Elemental Arrows based on Skin?

B+Down: Flurry Rush as a Parry (I think every smash character should have a parry)

Side + B : Boomerang/Lizal Tri Boomerang

Final Smash : 4 Divine Beasts Beam Blast

That's all I got. Up B as Ravali's Gale just has to be done, it's time for a real recovery move for Link.

Edit: I think what they'll end up doing for Down B is similar to Shulk's Monado where you choose Runes to use. So Runes might be Down B so you can choose Bombs, Stasis, Cryonis I still think they should implement a Parry though.

Was there ever a Side-B counter move?

I think they'll make Link's L/R shield move the Daruk's Protection (since it's round and all)

The spin attack is a bit too iconic to remove so airborne will be the spin attack, while on ground will be Revali's Gale

It will be very interesting to see if they make extreme changes to his moveset. Personally I don't see them dropping the spin attack and the bombs will certainly remain similar. Maybe his grab will be different now that he doesn't have a hookshot/clawshot. I think they can replace it with magnesis.

It would be cool to have daruk's protection as the standard shield. I'd also like to see them do something similar to Peach where he pulls out one of the many different weapons for his smash attacks.

Every counter is down-B, though. That might be Daruk's Protection.

I think it's gonna go something like

Neutral B - arrows
Side B - boomerang
Down B - bombs
Up B - spin attack

and then some stuff like the jump attack on his dash attack, or those aerial moves from Zelda 2 as his dair and uair.

In other words, Sakurai doesn't give a crap.

Okay but for real, though I do think this post is right, it's no fun. I do hope Champion Link is a new character alongside classic Link, and as such for his moveset I'd probably go with, hm...

Up B - Revali's Gale. He just soars up high and then glides with the paraglider. Similar to Peach's up B I guess, but with windboxes so that everyone caught beneath Revali's Gale also soars along with Link.
Side B - Stasis. Only works in a certain range in front of link (as if he was aiming it forward), and then freezes an opponent for a very short time, allowing them to accumulate any knockback dealt. It wouldn't be too broken because the move could be fairly slow to come out (I'm thinking well upwards of 20 frames), and only freezes an opponent for 1 or 1.5 seconds. Also very punishable if you miss it.
Down B - Remote Bombs. Work kind of like classic Link's bombs, but they only detonate when you want them to, or when an opponent hits them with a strong move or whatever (though they can pick it up too).
Neutral B - Daruk's Protection. Counter, and can also reflect projectiles. This one's too obvious, really.
Final Smash - the Master Cycle of course!

What else, let's see.

Jabs - your average everyday Master Sword combo. Could be finished as either a 1-2-3 or 1-2-Spin Attack.
Utilt - Link just raises a lit torch.
Ftilt - Shield parry, doesn't really need to counter something but if it does it becomes more powerful.
Dtilt - low ranged attack with a spear.
Dash Attack - standard heavy weapon dash attack from BotW. I think the Woodcutter's Axe fits.

Usmash - Urbosa's Fury, just summons some crazy lightning above of Link. Very powerful, but sluggish.
Fsmash - Link throws a weapon forward. Could rotate between 3 weapons like Peach's fsmash, each with varying speed/strength.
Dsmash - Cryonis, freezes any opponent right in front of Link. Kinda like Lucas' PK Freeze mixed with ZSS' dsmash.

Nair - no idea
Uair - no idea
Fair - no idea
Bair - no idea
Dair - That crazy spear attack you need to do to get into the Veiled Falls Shrine. Could spike right at the beginning of the move, and has a considerable landing hitbox.

Grab/Zair - Magnesis. Kind of like classic Link's Hookshot, just different visually. Can snap you to the ledge too, and all that stuff.
Throws - eh whatever.

Yeah, whatever. I kinda ran out of creativity by the end but there you go.

But will they still keep TP and WW link though? That could mean 3 iterations of the same character, 3 links. Personally i think they should ditch them both like they did with young kid link and just have botw link.

Yes, since Trucks said Side-B would be counter

I think the Daruk's Protection would just be a reskin of the shield move :p
