Oh left hand, so many memories. You help me type, you twist off water bottle caps and you even help me drive safely according to my drivers education professor. But what are some things that you just cannot do for me? If Science has done anything, it has proved that your non-dominant had has some limitations.
Like I cannot write with my left hand, type on the right side of my keyboard properly with my left hand, do my business, hold food, use a fork, press the C-strafe buttons while playing an N64 game, etc.
The hand really has disappointed me on a subliminal level. Not sure if I will ever get over it either. Maybe in my old age when my right hand gets rheumatoid arthritis or carpel tunnel I will finally begin to appreciate what my left hand has done for me. Stayed fresh so that I can use it when all other options in life are gone. Well, unless we have robot hands by that time. Remember Star Wars 2 where Luke finds out what he always sort of knew, that Vader was his Father? He had his hand cut off and he fell to the very bottom of Cloud City to his almost certain death. At the end of the movie when he did not end up dying we see he had an awesome robot hand that ends up being better than a real hand.
That is what I can hope for in my old age. A robotic arm that can out perform my left hand. Of course then the only issue will be how would that make your left hand feel? It has been waiting for 100 or so years to finally be useful, this is its time and I go and buy a robotic hand. Its whole life meaningless. How would I feel if that were to happen to myself? Think I am working for a cause only to find out when I am old and cannot move that Warlords have been taking all the donations I sent to struggling countries and burning it or using the donations themselves. I have to admit, it would not feel good at all.
With that being said I change my mind! There will be no robotic hand in the future for me. I want my left hand to be more useful to me when I am an old man. Even thought right now it is limited.
How about you? What can you not do with your non-dominant hand?
