Forums - General Discussion - Half A Billion Fewer Animals Are Being Killed Every Year Since 2007 As People Eat Less Meat

Nice, good job Vegans.

Vegetarianism and veganism have had significant effects on the meat industry.

15 years ago you might have known only a handful of vegetarians and probably zero vegans.

But the popularization of these diets have done exactly what the supporters for each of the causes have wanted to achieve – a lot less animals are being killed each year for meat.

It has been revealed that half a billion fewer animals a year are now killed to bring the industry in line with the demands from the public.

As well as less meat products on our shelves, supermarkets and restaurants in every corner of the world now cater for the vegetarian and vegan diet with most restaurants now having at least one vegan dish on the menu, 10 years ago this would have been an anomaly.

Animal rights activists who chose not to eat meat because they believe that it is cruel to slaughter the beings to simply fill ones stomach are not the only people who have had an impact on the industry.

We are now seeing more and more people switching to a plant-based diet out of a desire to help the environment.

Omnivores ftw.

Vegetarianism and vegans are destroying an industry! What about them poor butchers who have a family to feed! Inhumane, I tell ya!

I wish it said where exactly. Is this US only? Or worldwide?

Highly doubtful that it's worldwide because meat consumption in places like China is on the rise.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

Does that mean half a billion animals fewer are being born too? After all no need for them to the industry.

Does that mean lower prices though? Because you'd think less demand would mean lower prices. There's gotta be some upside to vegetarians... right?

Not eating meat? Hmmm...never thought about that......and I never will again. Yum.

I actually eat meat every single day, I don't remember the last time I had a meal that didn't have some sort of meat in it... and I don't think that will be changing any time soon either, lol. I don't mind people going veggie or vegan, as long as they don't try to make me feel bad for eating meat, it's what our fathers did, and our father's fathers, and our father's father's fathers, and our farther's father's farther's fathers, and our farther's fa-okay that's enough, no need to make a Monty Python reference, lol.

Well, I'll admit I was wrong; I thought Switch momentum would slacken in the early months of 2018.

Curl, I know that was tough to do, but it is good that you admitted it. I been wrong such as: I was super pessimistic on switch in general, think I predicted 25-33 million max at one time and I am wrong about that.

Indeed and in which case they don't get to exist as opposed to ceasing to exist.
