Forums - General Discussion - What is something you thought you knee when you were younger, but did not really understand?

Personally I always heard older people telling me their life lessons and thought it was all just a joke. I mean, I listened to them and surely heard what they told me, but did not fully realize it until I became older.

Sometimes old people are not just saying something from experience or what they know as fact. A lot of the times they are just saying what they have heard or even other life experiences. It was not until the last few years that I came to realize this. Having gone through or hearing about a lot of life lessons I now know what it all meant when my elders told me stuff. Sure they may not have actually done the things that they warned me against, but they have lived long enough to know it was a bad idea or heard from somewhere else that it was a bad idea.

How about you? Anything you want to share?

That screaming ''show me your true power!'' is just futile and totally asinine to do when you can just immediately destroy your opponent instead of waiting for them to power up.

I'd watch movies where a man would have sex with a woman--except the movies were rated R or PG or something and porn was not easy to access. Long story short, I thought the vagina was located pretty much where the belly button was.

mZuzek loves AA batteries

Gory horror films as a kid. I loved them and thought it was funny when the teens fucking were killed. I was way too young to understand sex. If wondering how I was watching these, I liked monsters and wanted to make them when I got older so I worked in haunted houses and made my own for a while. I did my own monster makeup and stuff.

I thought that girls gave birth by having their bellies burst open kind of like in Alien but bigger. The weird thing is - I had never watched Alien when I thought this as a kid. I think it might have been because I thought my mom said my old dog had a scar on her belly from giving birth, but when I asked her a few months ago she said she never said that.

I thought girls bled from their nipples when they were on their period - I never knew how the vagina worked. (And I didn't really know what a "period" was either, maybe a general concept but ... no idea how I even thought of this).

Well back then females wore their pants to their upper waist too. So it was hard to tell.

As a young child I saw night of the living dead and for years i would never sleep near or under a window for fear of being grabbed and eaten by zombies.... now that i am much older, I watch the walking dead series now and it doesnt bother me, but it freaked me out then.

Used to think that girls were princesses and were free from evil, and wanted to solely be treated like royalty.
Used to think men and woman only ever did things for each other solely out of love and compassion.
Used to think people only cared about being helpful and wanted to work together to solely benefit everyone.
Used to think fruit juices like apple came from the tree and not the fruit itself, kind of like maple syrup.
Used to think that just one sip of an alcoholic drink got you instantly wasted, and more just maintained it.
Used to think that to really be a man you had to physically be strong, in great shape, and put work before life.
Used to think that any male that had a lisp or weak handshake meant they were gay no matter what.
Used to think that to be the absolute coolest person that you had to end up rich and famous and flaunt it.

The more important things took me way way too long to learn.

For a long time I thought ground type moves were super effective against ice type moves. I don’t see why they aren’t. Honestly should be super effective both ways

When I was a freshman/sophomore/junior in college, about 100 years ago, I thought I knew everything. I blamed poor performance on teachers, textbooks, other students, etc. Much later in life I realized that no matter what we do, we get out what we put in.... having a good teacher just makes it easier.
