As I'm sure most (if not all of you) know by now, we've been having sporadic issues that have caused the Bad Gateway Error (502 or 503) to intermittently pop up - the problem has persisted for more than a few weeks now and, as it became obvious that it was affecting more and more areas of the website, it became imperative that we do something about it!
The first step of that "something" was performed earlier this evening, as we upgraded the core application (PHP) that drives the website. The upgrade corrected the issue with the Twitter embeds (as well as the various other areas that were putting up the Bad Gateway error), and we should hopefully be able to put that particular issue away... ...the downside (as there always seems to be, with projects like this!) is that we've run into some compatibility issues that still need to be addressed. Some issues you may notice:
- questions marks or other strange symbols showing up in text
- intermittent errors declaring "depreciated function"
- other smaller issues with storage that you may or may not notice
We are actively working to correct all of these problems - I just ask for a little patience as we sort through it all. Once everything has been sorted out, I will be sure to report an update back to this thread. In the meantime, feel free to report any new problems you discover, in here.
Obviously, I do not expect any of you to be able to know whether a discovered problem is upgrade related or something else, but chances are if it was working yesterday and not working today, it's upgrade related and you should report it here.
One point on the reporting of issues - please try not to repeatedly report the same issue, over and over again. It will only confuse things and could potentially cause me to miss an actual issue as it gets buried amongst dozens of other posts reporting the same problem. What I'm driving at here is - if you feel you've found something and you want to report the problem, please make sure to read through this thread and check whether its already been mentioned or not. Beyond that, just hang in there folks - we're on it!!! :)
