Here are the top three games this year according to Metacritic.
Here are the top five games from last year according to Metacritic.
Finally here are the top 10 games so far this year.
Now this is not just about Game of the Year awards or Metacritic scores, it also includes Gamer's opinions as a whole. What else is coming out this year that can possibly overtake any of these games that were in the top three positions last year? Will any system be able, in the foreseeable, to have this much success that not only do they have the top three games on Metacritic, but they are all above a 95?
Here is 2016 for reference.
2015 was close!
Not since 2014 has anything been close. It fell short of 2017, but still qualifies.
I would like to point out that 2013 had a good year as well, and some may consider it the actual last time we had three big games, as 2014 nearly copied each game.
2011 was the last year that truly beat 2017.
So can anything get up above 95 this year? When is the next mega year coming like we had in 2017 and 2011?
Will we have to wait?
Do you consider 2011 the superior year or do you consider 2017 better all around? I cannot say too many people were clamoring to play Portal 2, as an example.
