Is Metroid: Samus Returns a success?

Yes 12 63.16%

No 7 36.84%

It may have only reached 340K worldwide in sales, but because the much-hated Federation Force did even worse at 120K, I'd say Metroid: Samus Returns is a success, don't you?

I wish.

Would have been at 500k, I probably would agree, but right now, it is below the expectation of everybody who tried to predict it 3 months ago.

The slow and almost abrupt death of the 3DS certainly didn't help but I won't immediately pray for 2D sequel if I were you.

It didn't really succeed, but I mean it wasn't a failure either. It is a remake, I can't imagine it had a high development cost and it released on the end of the 3DS's life cycle, it could also still sell a bit more down the line.

At least it won a Game of The Year Award though.

I do think it's going to reach the 500k, though. Looking at VGC data it seems quite likely it'll finish this year on at least 400k, I don't see how it won't sell at least another 100k afterward, in fact I'd say it might come close to Prime Hunters numbers.

Does that then constitute a success? Maybe, I guess. I'm sure Nintendo didn't expect this to sell gangbusters given all of the circumstances, and I suppose half a million should be enough since this isn't exactly a big budget game. But really, all I want is a god damn Metroid 5 on the Switch building on the promise left on MSR's Chozo Memories, if that happens I'll be happy forever.

If you say it failed, then I guess Metroid really is dead. -_-

Well it didn't really flop but it didn't set the sales chart on fire either. I feel like when Nintendo is deciding whether or not to make another 2d Metroid they'll take note that basically everything released on the 3ds this year kinda bombed

So maybe it should've been released for Switch instead?

What do you mean, "maybe"?

It might've sold a lot better on Switch, but there were still Breath of The Wild, Mario Kart 8 DX, Splatoon 2 and ARMS.
