It's that time of the year again - the 11th year running we'll be doing Game of the Year Awards!
I really liked the format we used for last year's awards so we're doing it the same way this year, combining staff voting and the results of the user poll to determine which games win our various GotY Awards.
The only requirement to vote is a Google account, since the poll uses Google Forms.
The voting form can be accessed here - https://goo.gl/forms/dikQH6UTRhjNv4Ql1
There are some explanatory notes at the start of the form, but if you have any additional questions feel free to ask in here and I'll do my best to answer them.
I've tried to list as many games as possible but some invariably fall through the cracks each year; if a game is missing from the drop-down lists that you want added please let me know asap, so that I can get it added before most people have finished voting. In some cases the games may not have been eligible, so please read the following list of eligibility rules before you request:
- Each game is eligible for only one genre award. Nier Automata, for example, could easily fall into the Action/Adventure and RPG categories, but because of this rule you will only find it on the Action/Adventure list. This is to prevent one game dominating various genre awards, as happened several years back. These calls will often be debatable, but unless they're clearly wrong please don't bring them up.
- Previously released games are not eligible for any genre award besides the Best Remake/Remaster/HD Collection one. This is why you will not find Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and WipEout Omega Collection in the Best Racing Game category, nor StarCraft Remastered in the Best RTS category, and so on.
- Games that are unlikely to release in 2018 are ineligible for the Most Anticipated Game of 2018 Award. This is another imperfect rule because some titles will be delayed, or even released earlier than we expected, but it prevents one game winning the Most Anticipated Award several years running (as happened with The Last Guardian). The following noteworthy titles are not eligible on this basis, but will of course be eligible next year, assuming they get firm 2019 release windows:
New From Software game
Metroid Prime 4
Ghost of Tsushima
Lords of the Fallen 2
The Last of Us Part II
Shin Megami Tensei V
Voting will close sometime on 16th December. Up until then you are free to go back and edit your votes at any time.Last edited by Machina - on 09 December 2017
