Should Nintendo hire fans to make games for them?

The success of Sonic Mania, and the fact that it was made mostly by fans of the Sonic franchise, has me thinking that Nintendo should do the same.

By that I mean hire fans to make games for them, because we've seen very talented fan game developers out there. :D

I can't be the only one who shares this sentiment.

By that I mean accept a contribution by a team of Nintendo fans towards one of their IPs, provided it's good enough, because we've seen very talented fan game developers out there. :D

If such a thing did happen, it would not be with any major franchise.

Stardew Mania or Duck Hunt Mania is the only possibility from such a scenario.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

I thought Stardew Valley wasn't owned by Nintendo.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind minor or dead franchises getting some games like this.

But really, the last time a Nintendo franchise got a really good fangame, Nintendo took it upon themselves to best it and they did (and the dude who made the fangame now works at Moon Studios), so nah.

Yes, but what if somewhere there's a group of people who do a fangame so good that it changes their mind? :)

They'd have to do something really innovative because if the best a bunch of fans can do is competently emulate what has already been established then Nintendo could just do that themselves.  And if some fans get to the point where they can create a great fan game then they should just make their own unique IP and rake in some cash.  Sonic Mania is a different story though because it's not hard to upstage the Sonic Team since they can barely achieve mediocrity at this point.  The people in-charge there are either over-the-hill or so bored with Sonic that they're just going through the motions.

So you're saying Nintendo shouldn't get fans to make new games, but Sonic Team should? Or should Sonic Team just work on something way different?

Instead of getting rid of fanwork, Nintendo could have offered some of these teams help to port them on a Nintendo platform:

It's not gonna happen.I don't doubt that fans can do good games with support, but the only reason sega agreed with sonic mania is that they have no idea what to do with sonic,so they are more open to this kinda of stuff.

Nintendo is very protective of the ip's they own,and since they usually do know what to do with them, they have no reason to be more open to this kinda of projects(shame).

I don't think Nintendo would allow fan games to begin with, especially not with their prized IPs.  At most, they'll just look at the attention certain fan games get as a cue to make that game themselves.

As for Sega, they're already letting fans make games for them.  Sonic Mania was a success for them so they should continue letting that team make 2D Sonic games for them.  As for Sonic Team themselves, they should take a break and do something else because it looks like they're just going through the motions.
