I'm not sure but Aonuma jokingly said that he was relieved that SMO was out only for a week when voting ended.

Couldn't agree more. It was one of the only games I let get in the way of University and I enjoyed every damn second of it. I also agree about Nintendo being studio of the year, they just had a baller year. Here's their acceptance video as well:
