Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced the establishment of Portkey Games, a new label inspired by J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, which includes the likes of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts.

Portkey Games will release both mobile and console games that transport players into the Wizarding World, and feature both and familiar characters “at different points in their lives” from the Harry Potter series. Players will also be able to visit new locations and explore new story elements.

“With Portkey Games, we are thrilled to answer the fans’ requests for more games inspired by J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World,” Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment president David Haddad said in a press release. “We are working with talented creators to build games that focus on player-generated stories, which will live alongside the magical universe created by J.K. Rowling.”

The first title announced under the label is Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, an augmented reality game developed by Pokemon GO studio Niantic Labs. Here’s a brief overview of the game, via Warner Bros.:

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will reveal that magic is all around us, and allow players to be a part of Harry Potter‘s rich world, through Niantic’s AR + real-world mobile game platform and the franchise expertise of WB Games San Francisco’s development and publishing team. By exploring real-world neighborhoods and cities across the globe, players will go on adventures, learn and cast spells, discover mysterious artifacts, and encounter legendary beasts and iconic characters.

More information on Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be announced in 2018. As for further Portkey Games developments, the official announcement teases, “Alas, this is all we can say for now. But we’ll be updating you on more Portkey developments very soon. Really soon, actually…” It should be noted, however, that the announcement of Portkey Games was made prior to the announcement of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, so this tease may simply be referring to that.

Guess the rumors about Avalanche (Just Cause devs) making a AAA Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts RPG might just be true then, since this says they'll be releasing console games under the label as well.

Harry Potter fans, we have good news for you: an announced Harry Potter RPG video game could be coming soon!

The rumor was suggested by a Warner Bros’ job listing, which says that the company is looking for a storyteller with a deep understanding of British culture and grammatical presentation; in addition to that, there’s another job listing – probably related to the first one – that reports the name of Avalanche Studios.

Could Avalanche Studios be working on a Harry Potter RPG video game?

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Warner Bros. Games Inc. seeks a Senior Writer for the Avalanche Story department. We are looking for a talented storyteller with a deep understanding of British culture and grammatical presentation.

Applicants should be creative self-motivated problem solvers who enjoy collaborating with other writers and designers to create an immersive game narrative. If this is you, send us your resume and writing samples (both humor and drama represented) for consideration.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide British authenticity to the tone of the project.
Receive feedback and modify work based on direction from both the internal team and franchise representatives.
Review product as necessary to help maintain on-brand messaging.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Work that shows a deep understanding of gaming narrative and branching storytelling, particularly in the realm of RPGs.

The latest video games based on the Harry Potter series were good, but it would very cool to have a video game with proper customization and strong RPG elements. Don’t you think so?

Harry Potter Go and Walking Dead Go. Would love if these take off: Pokemon Go was fun.

Does Niantic even have the resources to be supporting Ingress, Pokemon and now Harry Potter?

Im glad i have zero interest in the HP franchise growing up. That said if Avalanche made a HP game that combined the social and school elements of Persona then you could could colour me intrigued.

Would be pretty interested in a Potter console game

Bet Shiken that COD would outsell Battlefield in 2018. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8749702

No they don't. They can barely run Pokemon Go as it is. And its still wayyyy behind on updates. This will be bad too

Oh BOY!!! Its been a while since the last Mega Hit Smartphone game....... this could be the next one! I also love Harry Potter (My childhood), watched all the movies. (Goblet of fire and Order of the Phoenix is my fave ones)

Pocky Lover Boy!

I agree, I have wanted one for so long, and it always annoyed me that neither EA nor WB made one when they owned the rights. Hopefully Avalanche actually is making one, and hopefully it's their "A team", the one that does Just Cause, not the "B team" that did the mediocre Mad Max game.

Yes to school, no to social. That belongs in an actual VN dating sim...

It was Britain, it is America, tomorrow France and next year, the world...

Warning: This poster has a very negative opinion of Sony and Nintendo, Idea Factory and companies Tecmo Koei, EA, BioWare, Blizzard, Treyarch, Infinity Ward, Kadokawa and Sega. If you have very positive views of these and a negative view of Microsoft or Bethesda Game Studios, AVOID ENGAGEMENT AT ALL COSTS!
