Forums - Politics Discussion - Texas church shooting leaves many dead (atleast 27).

Damn, we had the mosque that was targeted several weeks ago, and now this. Why attack people who just want to attend service and be happy in their community?

Also, this will only continue as we see the United States keep shoving guns up their ass. Congress has rejectes bills that would prevent terrorists from owning guns, and they removed a bill that can let mentally ill people own guns.

We experience several mass shootings a week, and our homicide rate from firearms is comparable to countries such as Mexico and Brazil. How much longer until the second amendment bullshit isn't spouted and we realize that guns are actually a problem?

At this point, anyone who actually thinks the US doesn't have a problem is severely ignorant. How can you reject so much evidence? It's as ridiculous as the creationists who still think the Earth is 6000 years old

I truly wonder what went through your mind as you wrote that and thought 'huh, seems fine'.

27 people died. Do we seriously need to go "hurr religion of peace" or "DAE X people back at it" as though we're fucking retarded?

He pretty much nailed it. Prayers do nothing. Action does, and we know which one. But money and pride are more important than human lifes.

Prayers may be important but are indeed insufficient.

I understand his frustration. You'll see a lot of politicians that talk in platitudes during times like this or want to focus on mental health problems as the real cause but when it really comes down to it it's all just useless bullshit they're using to seem like they want to do something when in reality this is just a part of life in the legislative climate they've helped build around guns.

The point is that the people didn't elect Paul as a minister, we elected him as a politician to presumably work towards our betterment. So quit praying and do something about it. You're in a position to do that. If my butcher tells me that his prayers are with me because I have cancer I take it as a well meaning thought from a position of ineffectiveness (he can't fix my cancer) but if my Oncologist I paid to fix it only has prayers I'd be pissed.

It's obviously political, otherwise this shit wouldn't happen so often in USA. But Trump will just act as if this can always happen and only Islamist terroist attacks are preventable with his awesome ideas instead of really changing something regardless of the reason why an attacker kills people.

I mean, I technically agree with him and all this "prayer" bullshit every time something happens is pretty annoying. But there's a time and a place, and this is neither.

idk, I feel like this is a very appropriate response given the survivors of the attack likely WANT prayers given their religious affiliation. Sure, legislatively, you want to hear about new policy, but I feel like its too early to shit on the guy given its been less than 24 hours (but in all likelyhood, he will do nothing)

I agree. I don't think he was being innapropriate. I think he is trying to say that prayers don't protect people and change is needed in the laws. That would indeed be a better response to the constant shootings happening in the US.

Like, the logic that guns don't kill people, people do. While there is some logic to it, if you put guns in those people's hands, they will kill. And in the first place, guns are for killing. That is what they were created for. So, yes, guns are for killing and people kill people. It's an explosive combo.
