Tomorrow is the german election. 34 parties are electable with the second vote (the important one).

For non-germans: Germany uses a strange mix of majority voting and propertional. The first vote selects one candidate in this voting district, the second vote sets the proportions each party gets in the parliament.

Of the 34 electable parties for 7 is expected that they take the hurdle to enter parliament. These are CDU (conservative), CSU (conservative), SPD (social-democrats), Linke (left party), Greens, FDP (liberals), AfD (national-conservative). CDU and CSU always join together in parliament and create a bigger parliamentary group. That is possible, as they candidate in different regions in germany, so in TV usually their results are presented together.

In Germany after the election will be created a government by multiple parties enter a coalition. The members of the coalition which reaches majority elects the members of the government.

The 'grand coalition' of the main center right and left party will continue. It's like Republicans and Democrats in the US forming a uniparty.

As Merkel is their candidate the only way she doesn't become Chancellor is, if all the other parties band together to create a coalition. Well, maybe they can do it without one, that would mean only four parties have to find a common ground.

Sadly enough this will probably happen. But one can dream.

Thing is, in average, people are actually *fairly satisfied* with the government (While it fluctuates, Merkel's approval is generally above 60%.)

So they're fine with keeping the same people in power.

I could see Jamaica (I'd be pretty okay with that, honestly - FDP and Grüne balance each other out, a bit. Though I would worry a bit for infrastructure investment). I'm not sure if the SPD even *wants* to be in the coalition, at this point. It's dammaging to the party, in the long run.

... Why's there so much AFD support on here -_- They're the definition of a 1-issue party, why the hell would you want them to *win* the election?

'1-issue' party's are just as valid as any others ... 

I personally hope AfD achieves at least 20% just to spite the whole world ...
