Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bethesda and the awful E3

Skyrim for Switch seems to add on the insult. Skyrim definitely was a legendary game when it released, but many open world games have surpassed it. Why doesn't Bethesda develop a new Elder Scrolls? Is the demand for a new one gone, or is there something that I am overlooking?

It could just be that they are developing a new Elder Scrolls, but it isn't ready for this year and therefore won't be announced (both Fallout 4 and Skyrim were annonced within a year of their release.)

The longer it takes them, the better in my opinion. I want them to hit the ball out of the park, especially considering the competition that exists in their genre, which didn't exist six years ago.

They tried paid mods once before. They got laughed all the way off Steam.

If at first you don't succeed try try try again?

Steam tried paid mods and Bethesda was the first to jump in. Then Steam, after the awful reaction from its users, backed off and made mods free again (tho it still says it has plans to monetise mods). It seems like Bethesda loved the idea and wants to try it for themselves, plus they won't have to share the money with Valve.

It's an awful idea that I hope fails.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Hey... they announced the evil within 2. I'm good.

Their new dishonored game was a surprise.

I do dislike that their main studio is wasting time with switch skyrim and fallout 4 VR rather than just focus on a new game.

I'm keeping my expectations low for Sony and Nintendo for the very same reasons. They love to flop when you least expect them to. Its like a virus that they pass around every now and then.

Happy i didnt stay up til 12am to watch it.

Don't count your chickens before they Ubisoft.

Holy shit.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Wolfenstein II was easily the best game on show this year, so I'm actually happier than I was last year. Still no Elder Scrolls VI though, shame on them...

AC looks pretty good, but the bird mechanic looks terribly annoying. Otherwise, it was a fairly boring E3, as usual.

PS: vivster officially wins post of the year. Wow, man, congrats!

I cannot believe I stayed up until 5am for that, it was truly awful, even the amazing wolfenstien trailer was dragged out and confusing. Poorly done and badly paced. I would say this was on par with EA's conference but from a different angle.

EA 4/10
Bethesda 4/10
MS 7/10

Why hope it fails?  If you don't want the professionally made stuff then just stick to user created content.

How is it bad though? People underestimate the willingness of consumers to pay for quality content. I mean just look at Kickstarter or Patreon. I think paid mods are pretty great. Now they just have to find a way to do it right and most importantly convenient.

Maybe we need a unified platform rather than a system by a specific gaming company. An open marketplace for mods with a client that allows for easy modding.
