Eeeeerrrrr until like 3-6 months before the console actually release it is still in development.

You can bet devs already have the intended specs (which can change just like PS4 had a double RAM that only first party knew because it was very near the launch of the console) and it isn't unusual that they would already have intended dev kits, but also not unusual that the final dev kit is delivered very near the launch as well. I remember case of it being finished after the HW was already out.

So even PS4 that was revealed in Feb and launched in Nov wasn't totally finished, from what I remember there wasn't even any game show in the event.

All together we can safely say that PS5 and nextbox were formally announced.

They're mostly set in stone in aesthetic design and/or have an official name when they're announced. That's where I draw the line. Devs have had devkits long before Sony confirmed next-gen hardware is far enough to showcase. That's a pretty far back line to draw.

Will you show any evidence of another PS console being announced like PS5 was to say this is a common practice or a very far back line to draw? To me this just seem you being stubborn to claim victory.

At least I covered myself by saying “it’s on the table” earlier in the thread, so I’m safe.

Anyway I didn’t expect it to happen this year, which I said in this thread and apparently got quoted for crow, but the PS4 held onto it’s great sales for longer than I thought. I think it will, by VGC reckoning, now do it slightly before the start of the holidays...

...

Though I’m still not totally convinced it’ll pass Wii...

PS3 eventually passed the Xbox 360... so thats not true.

x360 is still above ps3:

LOL reading this comment and clicking the link and seeing the info updated and showing PS3 above 360 by over 3 million is actually hilarious.

Better yet is considering wikipedia as the factual information.

See it came off more to me as an admission that they're working on next-gen equipment. But no name, no pictures, and the video (despite being leaked) was originally shown privately?

I don't consider that an announcement of a platform. That's a hardware showcase for what they intend on using in the next platform. Confirmation of existence, but not a proper announcement.

You're confusing announcement and reveal.

I would argue you're confusing a hardware prototype showcase to demonstrate what could be part of next-gen running current-gen software with the revealing of a new platform.

And then someone extra BOLD to predict when the Switch will outsell the PS4

If it does, it'll be mid- to late-2022. Maybe as far forward as 2023.

But that's if it does. Right now it's comparatively selling well because its only competition are stale platforms that launched 6 years ago. The release of PS5/Xbox Scarlett will shift the bottom line of the gaming market, and it remains to be seen if the Switch has the technical prowess to maintain relevant on a performance basis.

By the time the next generation of home consoles hit, the tables will have turned and Switch will be the stale platform competing against the new hotness... Except the new hotness in this case won't simply be peak last-gen performance in handheld mode, it will be next-gen performance. Maybe the handheld aspect continues in the Switch's favor... But maybe the new paradigm in console power overrides that.

Yes, and Switch is peaking early.

It was an announcement of its existence. I'm giving Shadow the credit there. No, not the full announcement that the PS4 saw in Feb. 2013, but an announcement nonetheless (along with a video of a piece of kit from it in action).

I agree. I'd say that a product announcement of a PS5 requires a proper worldwide marketing campaign focused on consumers. I didn't see that happening.

God bless You.

My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019

There's no signs or even reasons for it. I mean, the Switch is selling like hotcakes in it's third year without having had a single pricecut yet. What's more, Nintendo themselves stated that they will support the platform for longer than the usual 5-6 years, so software support shouldn't break away anytime soon, either.

In fact, I expect that Nintendo will bring a more powerful Switch version somewhere down the line (2020 or 2021, probably the latter) to replace the current new version with more bang for $300 (somewhere closer to XBO in terms of power), which will extend it's lifespan even longer than the 3DS's was.

It wont if they plan a PS5 in a couple of years.
But like most Sony consoles, they will keep selling the machines for 10 years and claim how good there consoles sell.
PS4 will outsell Wii if PS5 doesn't come until 2021. However that's a long time to let MS sell Scorpio as the most powerful console.

This aged horribly.
