Ugh. This is actually a little surprising. ISIS will likely get stamped out there though. Asians don't really play around.

Philippines has had a Muslim separatist conflict for decades. The main antagonists have rather an amusing acronym for their name: Moro Islamic Liberation Front, or MILF. But there's nothing amusing about their methods.

Seems like ISIS getting in to the game is a pretty big deal in terms of escalating the Muslim separatist efforts.

Duterte could have strong-manned the MILF if they remained isolated from the global terror network. But ISIS coming in to support the MILF (presumably) might make things a bit more challenging for Duterte.

It is not that well known but terrorism from local groups in south asia is pretty common including peacefull countries like Thailand.

The Phillipines is a poor country and a breeding ground for terrorism. High youth unemployment with nothing to lose. ISIS is the global brand of international terrorism brainwashing young people to fight.

Indeed it is basically maffia.

I don't think you realize where Syria and Iraq are.

Or Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Indonesia and even India.

No one considers them in Asia. They're in the Middle East.
