Turkey seemed like it had a potential to outshine the other arab countries

Other Arab countries? I'm pretty sure Turkey isn't Arab...

Anyways, seems kind of odd to me that those living abroad seemed so in favour of it, would have thought they would have been the most against it.

Well they are burning every bridge with Europe. So they are becoming gradually more Arab. Turkey was once a very modern country. Now it is a corrupt dessert and a dictature so it's becoming pretty much an Arab country rapidly. Perhaps they will rebuild the Ottoman empire.

Ummm... Arab countries are those that speak mainly arabic. So Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia are all non-arab countries even though they are middle eastern. So why would Turkey become more Arab if they speak their own language?

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Not if I have anything to say about it. I would rather see Turkey go to shit (something which they guaranteed today) than ever having political influence in Europe. Hell I prefer Putin over Erdogan and I am Dutch and he shot MH17 down.

It just shows how biased you are that you rather support a man who murdered Dutch citizens. Why? Because Erdogan is a non-European, a Muslim? I can't imagine your reaction if Erdogan shot down that plane. It's mentality like yours and the way your country behaved last month that both sides in Turkey agree with each other.

"I would rather see Turkey go to shit (something which they guaranteed today) than ever having political influence in Europe"

Just wow, Turkey has been in European politics for centuries.

I do not like to get involved in political discussions all that much. However, is that not like a really bad thing to say. You are basically burning bridges with every German person here. Not to mention it is nationalistic sentiments, like yours, of various countries subordinating one another that typically leads to wars and instability (just look at pre-WWI, WWI, and WWII wars to get a sense of the damage these sentiments bring).

P.S. I am sorry for what happened in Trukey. I was born in Iran (though as you can probably tell from my profile, I am a Canadian Citizen now), and I know what a bad political event can do to a country (in Iran it was the events of 38 years ago that turned that nation on its head, not that I saw the transformation that country went through with my own eyes as I was not born yet but I heard and read about how bad the aftermath was). Sadly, it seems like the citizens of many nations are making bad decisions that hurt their future prospects not to mention their democracies. Hopefully, after people eventually become tired of Erdogen (it tends to happen with most authoratarian-style leaders, where eventually their supporters realize they were lied to by a power-hungry person) or his successor they will work to bring back the parliamentary system.

His comment has a xenophobic undertone "stop infesting Europe", and I gave him the reply he deserves.

I do agree his comment did seem somewhat xenophobic and personal (I do not know this person well to understand if he came off this way on purpose). Moreover, being born in a country that many in the West do not like, I understand how fraustrating it can be when people attach labels to you simply because of your origin (often times based on generalizations and misconceptions; and certinaly no reflective of your individuality). However,  I think it is always best to extend an olive branch to other and start a dialogue, because it is much more effective to get people to see how you really are when you do not have defensive tone (regardless of the relief one feels by verbally unloading on a person that has insulted them). The statement that you made before just gave this individual material to point at you and say you fit the stereotype they have concuted of you and others of your origin, which is counter productive.

Going a bit far with that anti-Arab rhetoric don't you think?

A country can easily be a corrupt dictatorship without being Arab. Likewise, an Arab country doesn't stop being Arab if it's not a corrupt dictatorship...

At the moment most Arab countries are either a dictatorship or destroyed by the US and Russia. But a non corrupt and free Arab country could exist. The same way a free rich African country can exist. At this moment however both aren't in great supply. What I meant is Turkey is getting way closer to its eastern then western neighbours. Which are considered Arab or Middle Eastern. Before the cold war their where many free and rich Arab countries like Iran and Afghanistan. However in both cases that doesn't represent the current situation.

Oh and I meant every word of it. I think Turkey in its current form us a disgrace for the entire continent. A bunch of heated political swines which always try to bring up bad things countries once did like the Holocaust and Sebrenica. Calling European countries that dint dance to theur will Nazi's while completely Ignoring no even denying anything bad Turkey ever did Armenian Genocide for instance. It's always fun that Turkey acts like a victim well guess what when you call people Nazi's and tell them that not a single European street will be safe and Turks should make more babies to gain influence in Europe. I am not a big fan, Putin is a dictator and also a piece of shit, but at least one which can be reasonable.

The day Europe decided to make a deal with that corrupted infested now proclaimed dictature that Turkey is was a black day in European history. As for the Muslim part I like Aboutaleb a non muslim major of Rotterdam. I dislike the shit face Erdogan.

We know how you Dutch function, and nearly all of Turkey is against you, not just Erdogan fans.

You harbor PKK terrorists, your newspaper call them rebels while they destroy infrastructure in Turkey and kill our citzens, you supply and support dictators all over the world as long as they buy from you, you are two faced when dealing with non Europeans.

You are just afraid of and hate brown people, you yourself would rather prefer a murderer as long as he's white and "from da continent" than having a brown non European have any say in Europe. It's good that Muslims become a bigger population in Europe everyday, I hope Turks continue making more babies in Holland and the refugee deal is called off so we can unleash millions of syrians on you. You can keep your money and care for them yourself.

Tourism is not a huge factor for the economy and it is already in huge decline for the last few years anyways. This won't change much for the people but Erdogan will keep his position for the rest of his life. Actually, the more suffering there is, more votes go to Erdogan so the economy getting worse works for him.

13.7% of GDP in 2015 is "not a huge factor"?
Already declined to 12.5% in 2016 and probably even more this year.

When you factor in the unemployment due to the decline in visitors etc., it is a big factor indeed, that was a shortsighted comment. You are correct, sorry about that.

But I rather meant that when all the economy is  in the shitter, decline in tourism is one of the last things to worry about. It would be bounced back in a year when the country is cleansed of its problems. At it is right now, the country produces nothing really worthwhile and importing is at an all time high. This is not sustainable and actually the main problem.

Please do refrain, nonetheless, from using those terms to describe the situation - it's okay to call out someone for xenophobia, but talks of colonization, invasion, etc... just adds to the negative sentiment, and makes more than the person you replied to uncomfrotable.

You will find that far more europeans sympathize with the turks than feeling any schadenfreude.

Bet with PeH:

I win if Arms sells over 700 000 units worldwide by the end of 2017.

Bet with WagnerPaiva:

I win if Emmanuel Macron wins the french presidential election May 7th 2017.

I find that interesting as well. I was born in Iran and when I first arrived in Canada, I did notice a good deal of people refer to me as Arab when I described my origin (as opposed to Persian). My guess is that the generalization is made because the major religion that is practiced in Iran (although even then it is a different variation of the one practiced in other Arab countries) and the geographic location, otherwise the cultures are quite difference. In fact, I have had co-workers from Lebanon, Egypt and Iraq, and they speak Arabic (hence they could be described as Arabic), but I was surprised by the degree of difference in their cultures as well. But then again, I cannot fault people for the misconception, I had friends in high school that traveled Asia and Europe and many people believed they were from the US despite all of them being Canadian.

Look, I understand you are mad, but calling for the takeover of other countries is not going to help. Saying a country harbors terrorists, wanting to see millions of syrians come into Europe isn't helping your prospects here.

Refrain from what? I've been on this site for 6 years, I've made it very clear I'm from Western Europe, he knows very well where I am. His comment is nothing but racist and xenophobic, something you can expect from German and Dutch people, there is a lot of subtle racism here. Nuances we Turks pick up, we're not dumb.
