So, as we are watching Zelda amazing score, one thing comes back to my mind, that Sony still haven't achieved a 97 or more on MC.

While Sony has a good bunch of critically acclaimed games, it has no game rated as high as that, meanwhile both Nintendo and MS do.

Out of the top of my mind the best rated games Sony have are Gran Turismo and Uncharted 2 with 96s, The Last of Us, Little Big Planet and Gran Turismo 3 95s, and God of War 94. (except for Zelda, all of those would be the best ranked game this gen)

Out of those, two are specially acclaimed games, those are Gran Turismo and The Last of Us.

Back in the day, most reviewers and general consensus by most gamers where that Gran Turismo was the very best racing game of all time, so much better than anything else that it wasn't even fun. And much closer, The Last of Us was hailed as the best game of last gen or even ever by a good amount of critics, that it was as close to perfection as it gets.

Still, none of them reached a Metacritic score of 97 or above.

Looking up at modern days reviews, it just got harder to achieve that nowdays, but with Zelda getting to it, the possibilities still do exist.

Sony have some massive games in the near future already announced with God of War 4 and The Last of Us Part II, there will be very high scores coming, but do you think anything Sony have already announced, or will ever have, is able to reach this scores?

The Last of Us Part II have a good headstart being the sequel to the already mentioned masterpiece of last gen, so if it lives up to it, the pressure to drop a perfect score once again will be waving through reviewers minds, but I can't help but think there will not be a Sony game getting this kind of scores anytime soon, maybe never, as no matter how good it may be, there will always be someone purposely willing to put it down for a reason or another, and that comes from a very recent example with Uncharted 4, which weren't going to achieve that by the way, but that was hailed as the new OoT by some reviewers like BotW is now, but had to put up with someone saying it looks so good and is so detailed that its a problem. And with games being considered the very best on their genre ever had, they still weren't able to achieve that anyway.

Horizon was up until now Sony biggest new bet and it, at least for now as it'll be a franchise without a doubt, haven't gone nowhere near that, so if Sony still have a potential TLoU like success to drop this gen, it might want to announce it this year, but otherwise, this is looking like another gen without it.

nah,

and i dont care either. those scores are meaningless to the fun associated with playing them and while gaming both PS and Nintendo, I generally derive more fun from my PS games than I do my Nintendo games

Edit: There are one or two Sony games that definitely deserve it. It just hasn't happened yet.

I don't expect it to happen this gen, either. There are more critics and publications than ever before and it's difficult to please everyone. The Last of Us Part II and God of War should score well, if their pedigree is any indication, but the focus on cinematic storytelling can be polarizing. Uncharted 4 suffered from lower-than-average scores based on being an "interactive movie" and for treating the player as a "passive...participant."

Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 has 97,but still not won most of game awards, score don't matter when you see GTA IV with 98 and almost noone put it in a list of best games 7th gen,and no,I think never a Sony game will hit a 97

2 our of your first 3 games are not even Sony games.

That said, I see no reason whatsoever that Sony cannot produce a 97+ scored game.  They have some great talent and many games have come close.  I'd say it's more a matter of when, not if.

This exact same thread got locked already. Why re-create it?
While you have the benefit of the doubt over the previous thread creator - I still have to ask what is the point?

Why is 97 any better than 96? And why create a thread over it?

  • Deadliest mass shooting by an individual in US history (10/01/2017)
  • Deadliest high school shooting in US history (02/14/2018)

Oh right. Duh. Well, from a first-party perspective then only Ico deserves it. You could count Demon's Souls if you treat Sony-published games as first-party.

Based on the meaningless Metacritic rating system? Any game getting 95+ in general is hard enough. 10/10 is meant to be perfect. If a game is marked as such then it is without flaws and I honestly doubt such a game exists.

Hmm, pie.

We already had this thread yesterday :P

Only Metal Gear Solid 3 isn't, Demon's Souls is in fact a Sony game, Sony owns and codeveloped it, same with Bloodborne.
Pretty similar to Nintendo's Pokemon.
