Forums - Gaming Discussion - I hardly buy games at full retail price. Do you?

I like my games just how I like my cinnamon rolls - fresh out of the oven. So I usually pay the full price. And buy season passes and shit like that. Nobody should feel bad for waiting a price drop, I bet there's plenty of suckers like me to keep games profitable.

I really only buy Nintendo games at full price, only because I know that they're not dropping any time soon lol.

There is a LOT of truth to that.

Ever heard of a microwave...?

People don't really have to pay retail with Best Buy Gamer's Club Unlocked. 30 bucks for 2 years is a good deal for me.  I haven't payed 60 in years even on a preorder.  Had to cancel my Persona 5 special edition at under $80 USD cause I don't like spending extra money on social reject editions of games anymore.  (No need to mod if its obviously a lighthearted joke rite? ;) )

Nope, I wait until it falls to $50 or below. Thats when I can import it duty-free because i'd be damned if I let these local game stores rip me off.

I buy most my games at full price, day one, for CAD 80 nowadays. I do have a backlog and plenty of those day 1 games end up not being played until a year later or more.

I find that if I start waiting I keep waiting forever as they never reach that value/price point for me anyway, which my 26 item wishlist on Steam is prove off. Besides instead of buying that now finally discounted game, I'll either be playing something from my (expensive) backlog or something new that's still talked about. It adds more fun when a game is still in the spotlight leading to discussions, not everything having been discovered yet, swap screenshots etc.

Plus if a game is not of the replay again later kind, trading it in a month after release is the same as waiting for the equivalent discount for a year. Sure you don't get to keep it, good, less clutter. I only keep the things I like the most on my game shelves. (And shameful backlog titles)

Btw amazing value freedom humble bundle on https://www.humblebundle.com/freedom 45 games for $30
It's for a good cause, yet looking at that page gives me anxiety, no time for all that! I guess I can just download The witness and ignore the rest :)

No, I never pay $60 for a game, even though I buy a bunch of new games. As DannyDesario noted, Gamer's Card Unlimited at Best Buy and my Amazon Prime student account makes every game $48 and below. I highly recommend GCU to US gamers, as it applies to sale prices as well. I bought Watch Dogs 2 and The Last Guardian for $48 combined last week (it was $58 but I used a $10 coupon that they gave me seemingly at random, I didn't have enough points at that point to earn it).

Only if it's a game I want to play at launch now that the price for big name games are $80 cdn +tax. Usually I'll wait for it when it goes on sale on Steam,

Yes when they are worth it and lately there has been many of those.
