come on where are they??!!

its not an npd thread without yuor charts!

I hope we get some numbers this time though, for both december and november

Aqua is gone. She said we'd get November numbers this month because she would be gone from Twitter in December, and now she's just gone from Twitter period. I'm assuming NPD had a big crackdown or something. Creamsugar is still on Twitter, but I don't know if (s)he still has access to numbers and is willing to bake any pies anymore, because (s)he hasn't been on GAF in a long while.

But yeah, the lack of solid numbers is a major downer. I actually had a practical reason for accumulating all that data. Those graphs were going to go into a major blog article about the history of game console sales, explaining the how and why systems sold the way they did. I know VGC gets a bad rep on the internet, but they've been getting a lotbetter, and it looks like I'm gonna have to use their data from now on unless someone saves us.

Getting a lot better? looks at most recent hardware numbers ... 26 Nov 2016!! The lag time is crazy here.

I suspect ioi is getting the NPD numbers so US numbers should be fairly accurate. But I guess he can't publish them the day after NPD comes out. Perhaps accuracy is getting better, but how do we really know? PS4 seems to be the only console that regularly gets a worldwide sell through report from an official source, so it's really the only console VGC can openly calibrate with. MS doesn't even report Xb one shipments in quarterly reports.

Forgot about NPD :D

Now... we wait.

I believe xbox takes the win this month. The amount of deals, the number of bundles in the top 40 all shout xbox won.

Top 40 where? In Amazon PS4 dominated. The Xb1 had more on the top 40 but they sold significantly less than the Ps4 still and barely moved at all in the top 100 yearly charts(which, again means they barely sold that much).

So Amazon's out of the equation.

only if we can tell what the difference between say 1st and 20th is on amazon. And even worse between 20th and 21st.

I can recall the days when the NPD thread would have 2 pages (at 100 posts per page) prior to the release.... sigh

I mean their U.S. monthly data is getting more accurate. See this post from earlier in the thread. Even after adjustments, their numbers frequently had a decent-sized margin of error compared to NPD, but over the past three years they've been very, very close to each other, usually under 1% MoE.

As surmised, mostly because for a while now VGC posts its final US numbers for a month some time after NPD comes out for the month. So this implies VGC has an NPD source and will always ensure its numbers are within 1% or so of NPD. But can't be exact NPD numbers or that would be a non-disclosure violation by someone.

PS4 won

It looks like I'll be updating Amazon for a while.

The PS5 Exists.

PlayStation 4 was the top-selling home console in December in the United States

Sony had another huge month to end the year.

PlayStation 4 was the best-selling home gaming system in United States, according to data from industry-tracking firm The NPD Group. Sony declined to comment on the sales, but the company did confirm the NPD data to GamesBeat. At the same time, Microsoft highlighted that December was also huge for its gaming division. The Xbox company also pointed out that PS4 sales slid year-over-year, and that Xbox One actually outsold Sony’s system in the second half of 2016. So while PS4 outperformed Xbox One in last two months of the year, which are crucial to overall sales, the systems are a bit closer than they were in 2014 and 2015. Beyond the competition, however, the console gaming industry continues to contribute healthy revenues to the $99.6 billion gaming industry.

Sony’s system likely got a boost in December from the launch of a handful of major games that were either exclusive to PS4 or have a larger fan base on that platform. The Last Guardian, a puzzle platformer from Sony’s internal studios, launched that month after nearly a decade of development and delays. Final Fantasy XV also debuted in December, and that game, while also available on Xbox One, sold far better on PS4.

But Microsoft doesn’t seem defeated, and the company even posted a statement that threw some shade at Sony’s PlayStation 4.

“December was the biggest month ever for Xbox One sales in the U.S., and Xbox One was the only [current-generation] console with year-over-year growth, according to NPD,” a Microsoft spokesperson said. “In addition, Xbox One was the top-selling console over the second half of 2016, following the announcement of Xbox One S at E3.”

Both Microsoft and Sony will look to carry their momentum into 2017. Sony will likely want to give players more reasons to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 Pro, which is a 4K-capable upgrade to the 2013 PS4. Microsoft, meanwhile, plans to launch the Xbox One Scorpio, which is a similar upgrade but that will pack more power.
