Forums - Sales Discussion - I'm afraid Sony made a mistake not including UHD Blu-ray. And...

Did Sony make mistakes mistakes with the new Ps4 models?

Yes. 20 39.22%

No. 31 60.78%

Total:51

I'm going to ask the same question here that I did on Gaf. People still use bluray for movies? >.>

What if sony releases a UHD bluray external drive for $50? Has anyone thought of that possibility?

Sat around fall 2017, they drop the PS4pro to $299 and release a UHD bluray external drive for $50 making it optional for those that want to use the console as a UHD player be able to buy in.

And say said drive also works with the ogPS4/PS4s?

I think thats what people don't get about this whole UHD movie nonsense, its something sony could easily add in if they wanted to and still make money from those that want to use it.

That is a good idea.

Its not like the ps4 has a 20 million lead or anything...

Worldwide, PS4 will dominate, but it is close here in the US. I want Ps4 to win here too.

Xbox brand is the strongest in the US, Xbox 360 even beat the Wii in terms of sales last gen. Thankfully US sales didn't reflect worldwide sales.

A handheld gamer only (for now).

Well, there are plenty of TV shows and movies in 1080P, but very little, if any, in 4k. That is why discs are important for UHD Blu-ray.

I do. I even get CDs when I buy music, and I only buy physical games.

I think sony did the right thing. UHD BR is not something that enough people use to warranting hiking the price of the console for everyone. And sony would know being that if online they know how many people are using the console to watch movies.

But as I sad before, its also something that they could easily support later without changing anything. Just make an external drive for it and keep the cost of entry low. Then let those that want it pay extra for it. Really don't se what the problem is.

This whole UHD thing is not even nearly as relevant as the PS3 having a blu-ray drive was. Its only a big deal now cause its ONE thing MS can say they have that the PS4 doesn't. But its really nothing though.

If the people choose Xbox One S over PS4 or PS4 Pro SOLELY for Video Playback reasons then they are basically choosing Movies Resolution > Game Resolution (the usual 900p vs 1080p and even bigger gap between XB1 and PS4 Pro)

It's called GAMING CONSOLE I thought? I mean if you love Xbox exclusives, then surely you are going for Xbox, but choosing Blu-Ray quality over GAMES Quality, WHAT?!

Xbone isn't just a game console though. The reason it's called Xbox One, is because it's an all-in-one for input 1. TV, streaming, apps, gaming all in one device. Now it's gone further and includes 4K Blu-ray.

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

Yeah!
They only mangaed to get 100k difference.......... Not good enough for a new hardware.

Pocky Lover Boy!

Worldwide sales are what matters.
