I dunno, Driveclub does have more modern lighting even with the VR cutbacks, but it just looks so cut down and barren. There are big open swathes where it painfully obvious stuff has been cut out, leaving empty space.

Yeah, the new city tracks seem to have been made with VR in mind and look a lot better (more balanced) than the old tracks. Those have big patches where it seems someone took an axe to the track detail. It varies per track, some you hardly notice it, some are barely recognizable. If only Evolution studios had not been closed :/

Tonight it sucked me into multiplayer. It's actually quite fun, much better awareness of the other players in VR. Even though it's limited to 8 players per race, races stick pretty close together. Probably because it's just a small group of die hards racing...



I think that VR games are being rendered like three times. Once for each lense, and once on the TV screen. Maybe that effects performance.



vr games look similar to last gen games in general. Thats no big surprise.

Driveclub wasnt designed to work with VR or at 60 fps. All the assets (polygons and so on), the enginge in general, the level of detail and sooo on are all created with a 30 fps lock in mind.
For driveclub vr they just cut off details and features till they reached 60 fps. Thats why it looks bad. If they make a game from scratch, they can use way more (not AS good looking) details and assets (less polygons) and soo on and the game will look significantly better.

Its like you have a 500gram perfectly round little cake.
This 500 gram cake will also look better then a 1 kilo cake cut into half.
Yeah both pieces are 500 gram in the end, same weight. But the one was made to be 500 gram from the beginning will look better.

Nah, the breakout box dewarps the left eye view (or right) to make the tv screen image, which is why it looks a bit distorted in the corners (and the bottom is cut off, in the headset you can see the whole dashboard down to the pedals)

It has to do the same on the ps4 to capture the footage though. I haven't noticed it affecting performance, I guess it uses the reserved CPU cores to dewarp the image, hence it's limited to 720p captures and 720p30 video footage. (ps4 pro can capture 1080p video in non vr videos) The TV screen looks to be 60fps coming out of the breakout box. (dunno what resolution)

Some games do send a seperate 1080p image along with the psvr stream. This is a compressed h.264 stream that goes via the USB cable to the breakout box, gets decoded and send on to the tv. Playroom VR does this in all its games.



I like how they kept the electricity pylons in but didn't put in the cables so they're just standing there with no purpose.

Looks like an early gen PS3 game to me. But I'd honestly be expecting that if I had any interest in VR, so no real shock.
