Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I see no sense in Nintendo Switch, it`s a terrible idea

True, but we can say with almost total certainty that will be weaker than an Xbox One.

Then again, what else is new? Nintendo haven't released a system that power-competitive since 2001. They've made it clear that they want no part in that arms race. Wii and Wii U were about 5 years behind the curve power wise and Switch looks like it will be as well. At this point, it's best to just accept that Nintendo does things differently; we'll probably never see another system from them that competes head on with Playstation and Xbox. They dance to the beat of their own drum, for better or worse.

Ive been meaning to ask, what are your thoughts on Switch?

I know that you dont like playing on handhelds despite being interested in some of the games that release on them so i thought this type of setup would be beneficial for someone like you.

Commercially speaking, I think Switch is a good idea. If they price it well ($250 USD ideally) and promptly kill off 3DS in order to focus all their first party output on a single device and avoid the software droughts that crippled Wii U, I think it could do quite well.

As far as me buying one, I have no problems with the hardware itself. My concerns are whether Nintendo will continue a lot of the trends that caused things to go sour between us over the last couple of years, like the constant delays and not listening to their fanbase. I'm going to wait and see for the moment. My first hurdle is whether Breath of the Wild still comes to Wii U. I just don't think I could ever forgive them if it doesn't.

I didn't think there would be a direct this week, cos I'm a pessimistic dunce.

Once again OP, what kind of innovation that it is a good idea would you like to see from Nintendo?

A good idea would be

1) Go for specs!! No need to go for High-End stuff like a custom GTX 1080 build, but at least MATCH Ps4 and XB1 with something extra. PS4 and XB1 are already so outdated that they both are receiving mid-gen upgrades, still being behind them for a 2017 release is unexcusable.

2) Bring back the motion controls! It was something Nintendo did greatly on Wii, and them they threw it away with Wii U to favor a Tablet thing controller because, because people liked tablets at that time ( not so much anymore). If they just improved motions controls and offered a spec bump Wii U would have been interesting. I know it supported Wii Mote, but it was extremely secondary to that tablet thing. I don`t understand why Nintendo didn`t improve on motion controls, i really don`t understand why they ditched it.

3) Improve a lot on online, and I mean a lot.

4) Switch right now has no innovation in it. It`s just a tablet using a proprietary Nintendo OS with a TV Dock in the box, I mean, it`s just that and nothing else, the only thing it actually has is Nintendo games, and just that. It really has nothing to offer to consumers but Nintendo exclusives, I hope i`m wrong, but this way only nintendo fans are going to get one, again.

1) It's speculated to be a little below XB1. If it was on par, it wouldn't be a huge difference. The specs race is overrated anyway. Gameplay won't improve with higher specs. Third parties might have an easy way to port their games, but we all know that they can't sell their multiplat stuff on Nintendo consoles, so why even bothering anymore. Third parties should try to develop games that are suited for the Switch, like Capcom recently stated.

2) The WIi U had motion controls! Look at Nintendo Land, Splatoon, Fatal Frame V or Starfox Zero. The problem is that motion controls are hated by the so called "hardcore" gamers and they shit on it whenever they can.

3) Care to elaborate? All the games I played online so far worked amazingly well (Mario Kart 8, Smash, Splatoon, Devil's Third, and currently Metroid Prime Federation Force). The only exception would be Lost Reavers but I refuse to blame Nintendo for that.

4) Detachable controlers are the innovation. This allows for various ways to play.

I would like to hear how gaming as a whole evolved from last generation to current generation. What kind of new experiences did we get?

With the Wii U we got the use of touch screen in our console games (Scribblenauts was big in my house) and the ablitly to play our console games off TV.  We also got to play many of our local two play games without the use of split screen (which I loved).  The PS4/Box One (which I've owned or still own) gave better graphics and little else.  In the past year, I've played multiple times more on my gaming computer and Wii U than the PS4/Xbox One combined.  There's just nothing much new there.

Exactly! Off TV play is the one big thing that I believe is a big plus in this entire generation. Nothing else is new. On a side note, we also played Scribblenauts for quite a while, and we enjoyed Hyrule Warriors in multiplayer mode without the need of a splitscreen. It's really great ^^

Like FF XIV, No Man`s Sky, The Witcher III and Final Fantasy XV only were possible because of a strong hardware. Hardware brings graphics, but it also bring AI, Physics, Real Time Weather, Massive Multiplayer, Virtual Reality, Procedural Generation...

We already had all this in the last generation. FFXV started development as a PS3 game, so it would have been possible on it. After the transition to the PS4 SE had more capabilities to highlight the visuals, but I cannot believe that the gameplay is only possible on the new hardware. It's an rpg after all. FFXIV is a PS3 game. The Witcher  is a wrpg. Why couldn't it have been possible on a PS3? Procedural generation might be the only thing that's new due to requiring a lot of processing power, but this alone doesn't make a good game. We all know the customer's perception of No Man's Sky.

Or its great idea like Wii was. Of Course it's not hard to make classic home console, but do we really needs 3 identical home consoles on market or its better that each offer something difrent!? To learn what exactly, that's is better to do exactly same thing like others are doing than to try to do and offer something different than others!?

The difference between the 3 are exclusive games

So you saying we need to have 3 identical consoles, where they will have 90% of same games (multi platform) and only less than 10% of games that are exclusives and actualy only real difference between consoles!? You do realise that PS4 and XB1 have around 90% of same games and only less than 10% of exlusive games!? Also today for console market, multiplatform games become way important than exclusives, look at best selling games for XB1 and PS4 and you will get of pictures. Also you don't really have place on market for 3 identical consoles, best chance for Nintendo is to try and offer something different than competition and that's exactly what they are doing with Switch.

What? You don't want to carry a phone And a tablet to play games on?

Yes, it seems like another meh idea. I thought the WiiU was really meh, and I loved my Wii. Why no new WiiFit games or Wii Sports Ultra? Why not give something to the fans of those great selling games?

No, they just make another small device because portable gaming on your phone or tablet is so hard.

Le Sigh.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

"doing this thing of trying to be different with no clear advantage?"

Well said sir, well said.

I don't know if you try to support OP or if you are sarcastic. If you're sarcastic, never mind, forget about it. If you support him, however, let me kindly tell you that there are plenty of advantages which have already been pointed out a million times in dozens of threads on this site, but unfortunately you haven't seen them.

Do you think I am new to gaming? I have been gaming for the last 26 years, and I owned every Nintendo platforms.

And no I don't think the advantages  of the last Nintendo platforms trumps the disadvantages.

I know it's really hard for fanboys to grasp the fact that other people can have a different opinion than them, but that's just what it is.

That's the point, both are performing great when it comes to sales. Nintendo should just do the same.

Do we really need three similar consoles? Call it what you want, but the switch is the 3ds successor. I like my 3DS more than my PS4. The switch is perfect as it's to me.
