Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I see no sense in Nintendo Switch, it`s a terrible idea

I mean, if Nintendo said " we`re not going to release a home console again, but, we are selling this incredible portable device and we are also allowing consumers to play on TV by using the included base" it would be just fine, but saying  Switch is a home console first makes no sense at all. I see nothing good coming from Switch, it`s sounds even worse than Wii U, and Wii U was an already horrible idea.

Nintendo has a real problem for not wanting to follow tech trends, because of that they missed all generations after SNES with the excpetion of Wii. Why Nintendo keep doing it? Why they seem to want to fail so hard? Why just not make console with really good specs and Nintendo games and stop doing this thing of trying to be different with no clear advantage?

Wii was a hit, but only Wii. Why is it so hard for Nintendo to just buy some nice components and make great software? I mean, I really don`t understand what Nintendo is still doing in hardware business for home consoles. Switch is heading to be a big disappointment for those who want to see Nintendo doing great again.

Not going even for PS4/XB1 level, when those were already underpowered for 2013 and even more for 2016 is really pointless.

They are making great software, and they are doing something different in the console market.

If it is confirmed to be a shared library, and that is all Nintendo will be making next gen, then I'm really excited by it, even with it being underpowered

So your problem with the Switch is that Nintendo called it a home console?

Thats a terrible reason to dislike something.

We don't need another Xbox/Playstation. What do you want them to do?

So, just think of it as a portable console. Problem solved. /thread

This is normally answered with "make another Gamecube" ya know... that amazing selling console. Don't get me wrong I love the heck out of my GC and proudly have over 200 games for it, but still, it wasn't a machine made to sell alongside the PS2 and Xbox.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

One has to understand that Wii made a lot of money. No, scratch that, it made A LOT OF F***ING MONEY and it did this by distinguishing itself from XBox and PlayStation. Because of this, I don't see Nintendo ever chasing after a traditional home console ever again or at least not any time soon. I like that though: just another home console with a lot of the same third party titles I think would be pretty boring.

That said, Nintendo's gotta make sure to have great software lined up. After all, in my opinion, it isn't the hardware that makes the console, it's the software.

People are already sick of a duopoly, you want three hardware makers making similar hardware? Boring. And it makes no business sense for Nintendo. Their target market fit only on the $100-$250 range (and I would say $250 is stretching it).

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

I'm still giving Nintendo time. We have not see everything about the platform yet. If the Switch can be used as a phone outside the home, then it is an absolut home run of a device, and they will sell at incredible numbers. If they fail to implement phone features, or even 4G at a minimum, then they are going to have trouble. You can't have a device, that does not compete with the home console or with mobile devices, but you can do very well with something that does good enough at home and on the go, while bringing functionalltiy not available on any other device.

Nintendo has a concept with the Switch that could take the wold by storm, and really make Apple and Google rethink their positions in the mobile market. Now whether they drop the ball or take it all the way has yet to be seen. Januray will be a very telling month. At that point I will know if I am going all in and buying them for all of my friends and family, and promoting it to colleagues, or if I am going to yet again skip the platform completely. There is no in between for me.
