Forums - Politics Discussion - Is it time to worry about Austria? - UPDATE: Austria remains independent

No, nothing to worry about. People are choosing what they think is best for the country.

Totally, man. Those guys totally pwned everyone in their qualifying round group. I'm starting to worry about them winning EURO 2016.

Agreed. It's gonna be a great tournament, Austria, Belgium, Poland and France all have a legit shot at stopping Germany from getting the cup.

@OP - I think it's not even funny anymore that every single right-wing politicial is immediatelly called a nazi. And your analysis shows that you're probably not up to date with politics. Austria connecting with Germany? What? Who on Earth would want to join with Germany now? They became the leper of Europe. I see this guy's victory as a clear veto for Germany and its ridiculous policy. I think people see what Germany did to Austria with the immigrants, they see what V4 countries (especially Hungary - a special country from your point of view) did and they see which way to follow.

I personally hope, this means Austria cuts the close ties it has with Germany and instead turns to Central Europe. V4 (in you nomenclature - the notorious nazi alliance of the 21st century I guess ) would welcome you with open arms. Central Europe FTW!! Polish ABC strategy for the win!

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Nationalism and anti-immigration is not equivalent to Nazism. The FPO doesn't practice racial superiority and nor does it practice antisemitism ...

Those who support the FPO may believe in cultural superiority but it being driven by the recent intolerance towards immigration is not bad at all when Austria feels that a short term correction is needed ...

Put aside the political correctness and realistically consider what EVERY party has to offer in a democracy and if you don't like the FPO then try to change it instead of deeming it not worthy of your time ...

I'm almost like you when it comes to politics, rol. I don't give a damn too often but when I do I can realize the value of keeping the power of politics (or idiocy) to a minimum since I don't want it affecting my day to day operations too much and I'm sure you feel this way as well ...

There's not a whole lot to be worried about Austria when it has an average IQ of 100 and when it has a per capita income of over 40000 USD ...

I don't know about Austrian politics, but it seems that if the FPO is a threat, the best way to counter that would be to lower voter participation After all, they gained a greater share once the voter quantity increased, so it should be a fairly direct relationship.

Maybe that's why the USA has never voted for a party like this. We haven't reached 60% participation in a presidential election in decades.

If more people could be as apathetic as you, it would be a great thing for Austrian Democracy!

Love and tolerate.

Is it time to worry about Austria? Of course it is.

There is a secret army of bears gathering in the mountains and preparing to invade Europe. A bit like the Chimera invasion. Only those with polar bear avatars will be spared.

Youre reaching

- the fpö was in the parlaments since half a century if you havent noticed.

- they are not a nazi party, anti immigration isnt nazism or racism. Look also at Japan and South Korea both first world countries who are almost 100% japanese or korean. Nobody call them racist or nazis.

- whats up with this xenophabia against germany? If someone is influencing anybody then its the current and long term trend in austria, like you mentioned. Why you come the idea that germany will take over austria ?

- the fpö is a great party

if we were living in the 1940's, sure, we can be scared.

But do you think Nazis would actually be capable of doing anything in today's world?

In fairness, in the US we're going through an incredibly scary bit of Trumpitis, and Trump has actively gone and suggested specific Nazi plans against Muslims (such as identification cards/pins/what have you).  And people are actually supporting it, unlike with Hitler when he effectively took power no matter what anybody said.

The actual execution of these plans?  Less likely in America, obviously, because there'd be riots and the military wouldn't back Trump in the slightest, but Europe is an all different ballpark.  It's plausible, if unlikely.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Well this was an interesting read.

Meanwhile in AustrALia our politicians have been playing game of thrones. We await to see who will bright out the next knife to cut down the current prime minister lol. Sad part is here it is mandatory to vote or you get a fine. So like usual we will al swing back to the party that last the last election.

I'm not right-winged(nor lefty), but I find it irritating how the left-wing has the option to say whatever the hell they want, which includes accusing people of being a nazi(something far worse than how people use the word). Yet, when a right-winged person states what they think, they get crap by everyone on the media.

it's absolutely bonkers. how hard is it for people to realize that the right combination of viewpoints is what helps us go forward? Left-wing people should realize they're not 100% right all the time, and not all their issues should be blamed on white people or the 1%

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.
