Hmmm. I had always held the belief of 2017 being the year of NX, although I was swayed a bit by the hype of rumors to possibly being this year. But anyways, that being said, I think this is a smart move by Nintendo. They are currently in dead last place and are not taken seriously by many gamers. Sony and Microsoft will be announcing new consoles/upgrades that will release later this year (4k/VR). Nintendo probably cannot compete with that hype. They are going to pull a 2013 Sony: let the competition announce/release everything and then adjust accordingly. Heck, with it being in March, that may give them enough time to even further revise/improve the hardware after seeing Sony/Microsoft specs (if what is currently known is not factual). Also being in March lets them have all the fanfare and again, not having to compete for it.

Dear God NO! This means we still have months and months of speculation ahead of us. I'm not sure I can take it.

So, they are going to miss the holiday season.. Oh boy.

At this point i'm almost starting to believe Nintendo hasn't even developed a new system yet and they just announced a new hardware date because they have no freaking idea what their doing.

I am more disappointed about no E3 showing tbh...otherwise I have plenty of games to catch up with on Wii U/XB1 thanks to splatoon gobbling up my game time.

Nintendelay is truly averse to competition, no e3 + March release...smh. The positive, we can extrapolate from the earlier "industry leading tech" news, that 14nm simply wasn't ready by the holidays, and had to be moved to spring '17. If that's the case we may get a powerhouse, closer to PS4K than PS4OG.

I just came here to say "I told you so!" to all the people that said I had no idea what I was talking about when I said the NX wouldn't come out until 2017. =P 

March does seem like an odd time of year for a launch, though.

That tweet is misleading as this is the quote.

“At this current stage, I’m not able to say. However, it’s not merely the successor to the handheld 3DS or stationary console Wii U. This will be hardware that’s been made with a new way of thinking. I’d like to announce more particulars regarding its specs and how it works another time this year.”

Their President essentially said what Iwata did in that it's not just a simple replacement, he hasn't said it's not replacing the said platforms.

Probably wanted a 2016 Holiday launch but couldn't so had to push it to Spring which is a bit odd..

I've always maintained that 2017 will be the year that the NX launches, but I always figured that the Handheld would be released first (either Holiday 2016 or March 2017) and that the home console would launch in March or Holiday 2017, depending on when the portable was released.

It'll be interesting to see if this is a portable or home console.

It's the end of the financial year. I said March 2017 in the crow thread. It does mean they can offset the hardware manufacturing into the previous year so bigger losses or lower profit in the current year that started on the first of April.

I'd count march as 2016 really (at least from a business perspective), as people saying 2017 vs 2016 meant next holidays. So are actually further out. (Never less than a year between unveiling and release was the main argument.) If have been amazed if it was any later than March as everything pointed to this fiscal year.
