Forums - Gaming Discussion - New PS4 this October (Rumour)

If this is true, do they want to release the PS4.5 at the same timeframe as the NX? October seems to be a good month before holydays, and that close release would be a very harmful to the NX initial sales.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I really think all the PS4K will be is a PS4 that allows proper 4K output at 60hz. It'll have a 2.0a HDMI for HDR too and maybe an ultraHD blu ray player. This will be to make Sony a force in the ultraHD blu ray player world as they didn't announce once this year unlike Panasonic and I think Samsung

So with the PS4K practically official, will this mean that sales of PS4 "BASIC" will take a dive?
Will this result in Sony being forced to lower the price to under $300?
Does there exist any data from the 3DS to N3DS transition that give a hint of what will happen?
Can Sony afford to wait for E3 to give more information?
Will MS scrap their plans for Xbox 1,5?
Or will MS make something else?

One month ago I was thinking that this site would be dull (except for NX threads) this year, but now there will lots of fun with sales numbers again!

You make some interesting points. There have been rumours about the XBO having a 1.5, so perhaps both have been working on it and to be fair, looking at mobile phones etc... there is a reasonable point to it. The old 5-7 year wait for a new console is a lot of money, time and effort. What if you could bring out a new console every 3 years just by improving certain things. At some point there will be a problem (perhaps in say another 3 years when the next one comes out), where they would say, games wont work on PS4.0... but I think the gaming industry is changing, and though some people are moaning... it was going to happen sooner or later.

It also solves the issue of product prices racing to the bottom, they can make a cheaper slimmer Ps4.0 and sell that cheaper, and the more expensive 4.5 which will earn them more revenue, and prevent MS from perhaps jumping in and doing the same (and if they are would people be that bothered by a XBO1.5).

The biggest gripe is the price of the PS3 which is still very expensive and doesnt look like its going to drop at any point.

Relax, nobody will force u to buy a new PS4;it's a great option for the ones who didn't buy it yet, and for the ones who Cam afford a second PS4, like me; this is good; you will still play every game, so what?

I agree 100%, I think gaming websites have done their usual run off lots of stories, copy other peoples rumour mills. I believe the console is to support 4k TV's because sales of those TV's are increasing, so why not try to have a device that supports it, in fact the original rumours for the console was that it would support 4k tv. I actually dont think it has that much to do directly with gaming, it might have a slightly better performance, but it will still have only 8gb ram etc 9 (imo).

Errrm no one is asking to you buy another one.... where is this entitlement from.

All of the games that are coming out on the PS4 will come out on the PS4, whats the problem?

Why not have all those graphical updates from the beggining? I can expect this kind of shit on a portable console but not on a home console.

...well "technically" you will no longer be getting the best version. There will be a version better due to this 4k thing. They should have done this from the jump.

Hopefully they secretly already have hardware in existing PS4's and just release a firmware update. I know that's unlikely though.

From what ive heard about AMD's polaris architecture is their entry level cards will be as powerful as the GTX 960 and cost under $200, the GTX 960 is not powerful enough to run games at 4k with playable frame rates so why is it people are hyping up a rumor about a new PS4 claiming it is for 4k when to get a PC to do 4k with playable frame rates you need at least an R9 Fury X/Nano or a GTX 980ti which cost upwards of $700, for Sony to have a console capable of 4k gaming they would make a huge loss on every console sold plus looking at the PC market how many people actually game at 4k, id rather have a game look as good as it can and run at a solid 60 fps than a game trying to push 4k.

personally i believe Sony are planning to incorporate the chip inside the PSVR into the console itself so they can produce the VR headset at a lower price point, remember the PSVR is not rendering one 1080p image but two 1080p images at the same time.

You realise at some point they'll realease a new console right, so it doesnt matter if its today, tomorrow, or a year from now, someone somewhere will only have just purchased a console and will be raging. It's a stupid argument, if you want to play the games coming out on the PS4, then a PS4 console is perfectly fine.

People are jumping to so many conclusions about a console that has not even been made official. I personally believe its a console that is made to support a 4k TV and thats about it. It's not going to be a massive difference.... but people will still complain.

If you want technically the best version you'd buy a PC with SLI graphics, so lets not use that excuse. And lets not go down the route of secret hidden hardware which will be enabled by a firmware... If the PS4 doesnt support 4K tv's natively, so be it, you didnt buy it because it didnt do that before hand right?
