Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NX game price if the library is unified?

Currently thet standard price of a new 3DS game retails at $39.99 and the Wii U games are at $59.99

"If" the NX is a unified device and uses the same games between the handheld and console what do you think the retail prices of new games will be?

Will they all be up at $59.99?

Or will the meet in the middle and list them at $49.99?

Or will they will actually take the low end of the price that the 3DS currently uses but will $39.99 be the standard for software of the NX?

What do you guys think about this?

Knowing Nintendo the games will be region locked still and you will be required to purchase both 'versions'. So $100 for both versions. Maybe less for cheaper games. Nintendo will claim that the systems are unified but in reality they will probably be two separate systems marketed under the same name.

I think it will be like the Wii U where there were games that released for $49.99, but higher budgeted games will cost $59.99. If the handheld can actually play home console games then it will definitely be worth it.

Tough one, because it would be wrong to force only NX handheld owners to buy game for $60, maybe $40 for handheld only game and you have to pay $20 extra if you want to play it on home console too, while $60 for home console game and you can play it on handheld too for that price.

$100 for a game!? Of Course that will not happen, probably $60 for both versions.

Prices would not be unified, and that will be for the best. Cheaper 20-30€ games can coexist with 50-60€ games, there's no need to price everthing at the same value. And this is more important for digital and its discounts.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Yea that could be a right but if handheld lowners suddenly have to pay 50% mroe for there games they could potentially get very annoyed even if they are big budget stuff.

I don't mean prices that are always at the RRP sicne you will always get big AAA games at top price but others at lower prices, Or do you mean they will still be sold as seperate games for each device at different prices?

If they get Pokemon Z to run on unreal engine 4 (or a better engine), I don't think many will mind it. 3DS games are $40 because they are obviously not the quality of $60 games. But I will agree wholeheartedly that frivolous spending for their handheld consoles will take a hit. Besides, there are some games for 3ds already at $49.99. Stella Glow and Persona Q off the top of my head.

Well, Nintendo has to follow two stadarts, the handheld and the home console. With the NX, even if the  system plays everything, the pricing would have to follow the prices the series used to get.

In Europe and Japan you already have Nintendo Wii U games that are 40, 50 and 60 euros. But here is a point for instance what price will be for MK9 for NX handheld and what price for MK9 NX home console will be.
