Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Was the 2DS and New 3DS a waste of time for Nintendo?

And basically the New 3DS is like the iphone 5S / its S series. Small improvements but people will still upgrade.

I have all revisions, so no. Still waiting for a price cut or deal on vita.

I can't believe it's still $200 in most stores. The memory cards haven't gone down much either...

It's disappointing though. The Vita was a pretty nice handheld. Just ridiculous pricing.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

If the goal was to just cause some brief excitement, then they succeded.

Beyond that though the 2DS languishes. No one wants it, even for that price.

Then there is the New 3DS....two games so far were made especially for it?

Dont get me wrong,  I love the idea of both systems. One was for people who just wanted the games, no gimmmicks and no high price point. The other, was to fix the problem that the original 3DS was.

But in the end it is all down to more rush jobs by Nintendo.  If the 3DS and Wii U were not rushed in the first place....well then....yeah

Thoughts?

kind of a naive thing to ask

practically every single handheld console ever released has had revisions made and new versions released. it causes some news and excitement and pushes sales. if you genuinely think that Nintendo created the New3DS with the idea of coming out with a bunch of better, more advanced games to better utilize the system then you are being unrealistic

they made a slightly better version of the system and boosted otherwise declining sales a bit. the 2DS conceptually is kind of a stupid idea though, I would sort of agree, however I believe the 2DS actually has sold okay in Japan so I'm sure Nintendo does not regret that decision

at any rate if you watn to see a system with a lot of "why?" version releases, look at the PSP. there were a ton

I say yes because the sales increased when the systems were released.

I wanna say they were, but they have boosted the 3DS numbers throughout the year, and are keeping the system alive.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

its still down yoy, so i would say it was a waste

DSi released in late 2008, DSi XL in late 2009 in Japan and DSi in early 2009 in the West, DS was overall down YOY in 2009, was that a waste as well?

New 3DS was never meant to be some magical sales beast that would elevate 3DS to the heavens, it's a stopgap upgrade meant to extend the life of 3DS by a year or so. In that sense, it did it's job.

There are two games for it? What is the other one?

I think Binding of Isaac is only compatible with N3DS.

Just something to keep mindshare and sales up until their next project launches. It's nice but not needed.
