Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bold Prediction: Uncharted 4 won't be as good as Rise of the Tomb Raider (Metacritic)

Maybe, cause RoTR is an awesome game, and Uncharted 4 runs the risk of feeling very dated if ND dont change the formula. But itll sell a lot more because it didnt sufer from a stupid exclusivity deal and it wont release on the worst time of the year against 3 of the most popular franchises on the planet (all 3: Fallout, Halo 5 and Call of duty are actualy worse games but it doesnt realy matter since theyre more popular).

RoTR is on of those games where you cant help but apreciate how much effort where put into it, you can see the details, the game is technicaly very sound (ye Fallout 4 it matters, a lot) it is not a short game, the action is great etc. I cant wait when it launches on PS4 to have my own copy, Ive been playing it at my friends a lot but I want to platinum this game when it comes out on PS4.

The last of us guys are working on the latest uncharted. Their last game scored higher than tomb raider has so I have to beg to differ. They laid the groundwork for tomb raiders relevance and their script writing is above and beyond the first game. I find uncharteds gameplay to be tighter and more purpose driven where as tomb raider is wild but still fun. Uncharted is one great cohesive game and the newest will be the largest yet. This uncharted will be the one naughty dog have been waiting to make.

That is a bold prediction since ND is coming out of making, arguably, the best game of the previous generation, they are at their prime. From what I've seen, Uncharted is miles ahead of Tomb Raider. Having played both, Tomb Raider does not invoke the the same level of adrenaline and emotions that uncharted does, not to mention the cast of TR are so bland, compared to UC cast. Hell, even Lara feels so...bland compared to Drake, now he has personality.

If the single players are close to being the same quality, Uncharted still has a solid multiplayer (unless they really mess it up) so that's a major factor in favour for Uncharted.

What makes you think that?

Uncharted has always been highly polished and overall much superior to any Tomb Raider game; ever. At least in terms of Metacritic.

Why would that change now?

I played all the UC trilogy and I believe TR (the reboot) tops any of them. What are "metacritic terms" exactly? You mean scores?

Um, duh. If you read the op he's referring to Metacritic; not his personal opinion.

That's kind of what this thread is about. Did you read the op? lol.

I believe you are underestimating Naughty Dog on numerous levels and I also think TR has an identity crisis. We have seen from the first gameplay demo that gunplay has been made more dynamic with more verticality, slopes, special animations and transitions. This is opposed to TR which has gone for a more brutal style with finishers and more like TLOU combat. There will be more flow to combat in UC4 and that will make it more fun and meshes better with the adventure theme.
The story and dialogue in ROTR is dreadful (weakest part of the game) and this is another area UC will pull away.
Multiplayer is looking particularly strong and I believe the setpieces will be just at another level for the final game.
Naughty Dog don't mess around and if they need a delay to win this thing by a country mile they will take that. These guys are driven to extremes and they will have played ROTR.

”The environment where PlayStation wins is best for this industry” (Jack Tretton, 2009)

Judging by the previous Naughty Dog games, Uncharted won't go lower than 86 in Metacritic, and I would even dare to say not lower than 90. It's a pain that they had to halt back the game until next year, but they don't want to release an incomplete or poorly done game, so it's understandable. I believe that Uncharted 4 will be better than Rise of the Tomb Raider subjectively and on a critical consensus. Of course, anything can happen. But since this is the last Uncharted, I know they're doing a proper sendoff that fans and critics will love and get involved with. And I expect nothing less from Naughty Dog... for now.

I can't get myself to like the new LC, she seems to be always almost dying and squirming. I don't think the writers when putting the story together and writing dialogue have done Lala and TR any favours.

Although the level design is sweet in TR and puzzles are better, I think Uncharted beats it on story, characters, moment to moment action and set pieces, mp and with the new one hopefully it will have better puzzles etc than the previous UC games.

Also, since this is the last UC, I think journalists might want to lay the series rest on a high note.

I highly doubt there's gonna be a sub-86 Uncharted. Unless Sony Bend makes it
