I appreciate mild, light-hearted, not harsh and insult-free trolling, so I appreciate your nonsanctimonious approach to moderation, Tachi, keep this way and good job.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I for one am sorry that the vgchartz community has left such a poor impression on you Tachikoma and I hope that you haven't given up on us for good. As you are one of the best and talented people we have ever had or will have here. That goes for anywhere else as well.

Because we can, and are better then what we might seem, as you are a mod that gets constantly reminded of the negative aspects in a forum, by responding to users who are being petty, not so witty, or plain old trollish. Maybe a break from that will let you notice that we can still have wonderfully complex and insightful discussion, spanning every single aspect that ever gets brought up here.

I do thank you for persistently trying to improve what the site is, which is an act of great generosity. But as you said, (I have to long ago) this sites main draw is numbers, that we all love to compare and in doing so, we then sometimes take our preference or even love of a certain company too far, by downplaying anything that is not familiar or is of our personal preference. In some almost unconscious attempt at building up what it is that we hold most dear. So without this getting weirder, we should maybe try to overlook things we don't agree with more, and just be accepting that different people, will have different outlooks and maybe those negative acts will lessen due to less acknowledgment of them, by means of more attention on the positives of this delightfully magical thing we all call video games.

i posted this from my "life raft" just this morning,.. make of it what you will:

the problem with vgchartz moderations is they are focused more on trying to create a culture then they are on trying to have consistent moderation rules.  their goal above and beyond anything else is to cultivate a culture of constructive, intelligent conversation.  the problem in their execution of that ideal is they view any negative statement as a fanboy statement even if well supported with actual facts.  ..and moderation that moderates any thread/user that comes to a negative conclusion that might hurt someone's feelings completely kills any constructive, intelligent conversation.

the moderation is so uneven it's always hard to tell what will/won't get moderated if you are posting something even slightly negative in nature.  then individual users are moderated inconsistently too,.. i personaly can post some really shitty things and get away with it because i have a reputation of sarcasm but if some lesser known individual posted some of the same crap i posted they'd be banned immediately.   which then creates conflict because everyone now views any moderation as biased and unfair which then feeds back into people not wanting to post.

but in short:  you cannot force people to be "positive, people respecting one another, people sharing their shared love for games BECAUSE of that love for games" and attempts to try and force that are counter-productive.  forums are a place for various view points to be expressed, shared, and yes arguged.  conflict is inevitable and frankly part of what entices people to forums.  don't fight that,.. learn the difference between good and bad conflict.  then moderate with a consistent set of rules that doesn't confuse the fuck out of the users.  what is/isn't acceptable is waaay too dependant on who said it and who read it.

in the mean time,.. i don't much care to post here anymore.  the moderation is inconsistent and the certain users have learned how to exploit the modderation team either to shit post or to bait post.  ..and that isn't fun to read or participate in.

anyways,.. i'm heading back to the site i enjoy posting on now..

lol i agree with that. last year i even had a "testing" phase i used to do by my self. i used to push the limits ever so slightly, but because i had a small moderation history and was a good user, mods let it pass. it reached a point where i flat out said something sexist as a "joke" and nothing. i went on to belittle users saying shit like "did i hurt your little feelings?" and again, nothing.

moderation IMO should be harsh on new users to let them know that if they want to pull shit, it wont be tolerated. and if they are just trying to pull some shit, they should just be permabanned. but other than that, i think moderation should be consistant for all users.
