I loved the gambit system. With difficult bosses you can take full control yourself, yet for the mundane battles you have the choice to perfect your own AI routines. You could make quite complex behavior with 3 characters and a set of simple rules each. I made it a point not to interfere, watch it play out, then analyze and improve the AI. Swapping out different lines for different sets of enemies. It was a fun way to play and you actually get to watch the battles instead of scrolling through menus to select the next attack for each character. Finally ally AI that works, since you make it yourself. |
Exactly how I felt. It was good to have AI you had control over. I liked seeing what did and didnt work with the variables and other things I added with the gambits. Something is really fun about being able to have control over how the AI acts. It made regular battles and grinding very very easy and less tedious
No surprises but it will be a remaster like Kingdom Hearts or FFX.
I will get it when it is cheap.

Are people seriously comparing FFXII and FFXIII's battle systems? Yuck!
Anyway, I am okay with a remaster. After hearing how "combat will be different' on the FFVII remake, I don't want them mucking around with my games. the FFXII battle system was one of the best, and if they change it to something more 'action packed', I'll be pissed.
I almost don't want to get FFVII Remake because of the change to the battle systems, and I don't even know what those changes are! I just don't trust them to not fuck it up.

I felt that what were FFX's strengths were FFXII's weaknesses and vice versa. FFX had a very good plot and main characters, but the voice acting was generally meh. FFXII had really good voice acting, but the plot was underwhelming and the main characters were a bit weak. I was never sure who was the main protagonist.
Final Fantasy XII announcement was confirmed a mistake.

Yes, we know that. I doubt an announcement for such a game would come from a conductor of music, instead of the actual company.
Hmm, pie.
Brew124's post on GAF:
"Yeah, I wholeheartedly agree. I was the one who posted the way he announced it from the stage at the start of Distant Worlds, and it was clear that he was referring to the game and not a soundtrack/individual tracks from the game. I mean, the quote I posted can even be extended further, as I just put in the main portion (trying to get his words as close as possible, but there may something here or there that I left out):
"And I'm sure you've all heard the big news... Final Fantasy 7 remake!
We're all very excited. I kept begging Square Enix, how about by the end of this year?
They said, 'Maybe Arnie-san, maybe, maybe.' So I think it will be later. (laughs)
And! There's a Final Fantasy 12 remake underway as well.
That's coming out soon.
And of course we can't wait for Final Fantasy 15, coming out soon.
It's very important that we have a special guest with us in the Pittsburgh Symphony in beautiful Heinz Hall, so we brought with us, and this is his first time this year to America, he joined us in Los Angeles a few months ago during the E3 convention, and this will be the second time that he's appeared with us in Distant Worlds in America. Please welcome the composer of Final Fantasy XII.. Hitoshi Sakimoto!
So I thought it's only fitting the next piece we should play come from Final Fantasy XII, so we'll be playing the beautiful Dalmasca Estersand. But before that, we always like to play this tune at the start of each concert."
That's when they went into the Victory Theme, and transitioned into the Dalmasca Estersand."
