Forums - Sony Discussion - PlayStation Now turned my awful Samsung Smart TV into a fun gaming system

I'll keep saying this. PS Now will be the PS5, and that's a good thing. Get the kinks out now, and it will be a force once the PS4 is discontinued in like 6-7 years.

But will it be a model that people are willing to pay for? Maybe a part will do it, but Sony shouldn't place all of their eggs in this basket. PlayStation Now does have a promising future ahead of it, but I don't think people are ready for online only just yet. Sony is doing better than a few years and I believe they should offer options instead of just one.

The one thing I think Sony should have been doing already and I would consider a missed opportunity, is to add one PSNow game to PS+ every month. This would be playable for one month only and require people to sign into PSNow. It would add value to PS+ for the PS4/PS3/Vita and also drive traffic into PSNow.

Great idea; maybe they'll do something like that once they stop putting PS3 games on the Instant Game Collection.

Just bring it to your phones, Sony, and I might be tempted to buy one.

I doubt it. I just don't think the infastructure will be there to power games stronger than on the PS4 by then. Plus, it's not like everybody has the internet speeds/cap to handle streaming these huge games.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

PS5 may be a bit too soon, but I would expect to see every new release added to PS Now.

Wow.... the "awful samsung smart TV". I dont even know what to say...

I see a huge beatiful screen...Must be a rich people thing.

I picked up on that too. Perhaps he meant the smart TV functionality of the TV which is awful? I know my LG smart TV stuff is pretty darn useless, unless the great MKV player counts as part of that.

Getting both things to work with each other is going to be the challenge and the necessary goal

Imagine this; we'd have the current PS4, same way we do now... but then you'd also have "a ps4" (all its games and services, split both into individual renting and a subscription just like PSNow)) available through streaming on a bunch of devices, including TVs. Core gamers would still buy the console (for obvious reasons) but the total user base would increase exponentially due to ease of access to the service and no requirement for a console to be bought...as well as being accessible on tablets and phones. Suddenly they have core gamers + families + mobile markets covered.

The current traditional console model suffers the limit of specific-HW entrance fee (and it always has), while a streaming service suffers the limits we already know and were mentioned here. Therefore, both must work together.

Uh, you're talking about a hobby based on luxuries. Gaming (traditionally) isn't a hobby for people without a lot of disposable income. There's a reason why they have expensive TVs in stores.....

That's false, gaming has never been a luxury, otherwise it wouldn't be such a strong children's medium. Even the poor people in poor countries can manage with old PCs and consoles and a little help from piracy. The really expensive TVs in stores are indeed for people with a little more money, but that ain't got much to do with gaming, as any HDTV will do, and it often does.
