Forums - Sony Discussion - PlayStation Now turned my awful Samsung Smart TV into a fun gaming system

I'd agree if PSNow was for console owners but it's not and never has been. This service is for people who wouldn't ordinarily buy a console. Yes, I know it's popular for forum users to question the service based on the assumption it's meant as an answer to BC but it really isn't meant for that at all. that's not to say console owners won't find value in PSNow, it's just that this service isn't designed for us specifically. Until the mendia and forum users understand it's NOT for them, we are going to constantly get bombarded with statements and articles that completely miss the point.

The only thing they could ad is PS1 BC for PSnow, as all PS3s are able to play PS1 games with emulation.

Do you know see how ironic that response to my post is?

Don't the PS Now servers use PS3 mainboards? So there would ve some limitation running just any PS2 game.

But why does that Samsung TV still not have BC? For shame

That really doesn't have anything to do with what I'm pointing out. Read what I wrote and then read his response. That's the definition of irony.

That's also what I expect it to evolve too, getting support for lots of companies and getting bigger and turning into a very solid gaming service for renting, but if it start taking PS4 games it could hurt the system sales depending on how popular it gets, but I dunno, they could try to reach even MS and Ninty, it could be good for everyone and I don't see no other company trying this approach soon, it would be great to any casual player or to parties, holidays seasons gamers, vacation time gamers, it's just turn the TV on, access it, have a controller (specially the DS4) and rent whatever you want and start playing right away without caring to anything other than your internet, and the requirement for it to run good is really low to most of people in developed countries and soon able to reach people everywhere.

I just wish people stop thinking it has anything with PS4 BC, it's a service on it's own and aimed to a whole lot of platforms, the PS4 is just one of them, it's a renting service pretty much like we have with movies, but for games.

Sony can have something really big on their hands, hope they manage it well.

There's no doubt that PSNow will eventually get PS4 games. If I had to put a timeline on it I'd say it will receive PS4 games that are 3 years old. There's no way Sony would put brand new games on there for the reason you've stated, but older games with advertising for newer games could actually HELP sell the PS4 to new consumers.

Now they just need to get the price right and people will start using it

Full ps4 games no way till PS5 is out, but demos of PS4 games should be on PS now just to get people drooling.

I just feel they should allow people to buy games on PS now. I mean why not? Their aren't really that many PS3 games I want to play and it is the primary reason I don't want PS Now + the fact that I I don't spend so much time in gaming anymore and hate to have to subs in anything. Still not touched the last two months of PS plus games :s.

You can't just buy games on PSNow for the same reason you can't just buy movies on Netflix. Sure, you could toss them $20 for a game/movie, but then you'd be streaming it forever, since you "own" it.....but their servers still take money to maintain. The cost to deliver "your" content would quickly and easily overcome the cost you paid for the content.

The solution would be to download the game to your TV. But that's just silly. Your TV isn't a Playstation.

Renting is actually perfect if you don't game that much. Pay $5 and get the game for a week. Low up front cost and you play it in the little bit of time you use for gaming, instead of paying full price and only playing the game for a little bit.

I was thinking the ssame, about it getting games some years old, but that wouldn't boost that much it appeal.

Now, getting games like CoD or Fifa there right away could be huge for the service, as it's the popular stuff people would really be interested to get on, specially the ones this service is aimed at.

And I don't know how it would affect the PS4 tbh, could go to both sides, with power. Could make a lot of people stop buying a console as well as could introduce people to games they will like and make them interested on getting a PS4 for more of brand new games of other kinds.

It really puzzles me which would actually happen, maybe it's just too risky to go for though, but then at least the last year version of that game, it would already be good enough to a good chunk and probably appeal more to owing a console to get the newer version.

But the masss market this is aimed at wouldn't even know they were old games. It really is a problem discussing PSNow on gaming sites because people automatically think like console gamers and can't see passed that. This service isn't aimed at you or I, it's aimed at the more casual consumer who are largely ignorant of EVERYTHING going on in the industry at the moment.
